Which wont happen with gallen running the joint
Smithy just has to tell Gal to take the 2, that will either put gal in his place or make them BFF's

This. The mindset of the players and staff is screwed.

Given how much effort and emphasis is placed on physical preparation, it seems odd so little emphasis is placed on mental preparation.

The players are playing not to lose and ironically it is exactly what happens. This grind **** is based on fear. It is clear the coach learnt nothing from his sabbatical. Taking penalty goals reinforces the lack of belief in their ability to score points.

The team that played without fear and with total commitment in the 9s bears no resemblance to the over structured rabble running around now. They play in a straight jacket and clearly have no confidence. They say teams play in the image of their coach, well this team is risk averse, shows no awareness, doesn't back themselves. A lot like .......

Didn't Price and Sheps run the 9's squad and Flanno was just there to lend 'motivational support' ? If so it makes sense as it didn't look like a Flanno coached team

missed the buck not getting Noddy on board last year. not much in the option category, and not many would be putting their hand up to coach this mess

I dunno about Noddy, but I don't see why someone looking for a first grade gig would knock it back based on the roster (facilities, funding and all other stuff aside). Its not a bad roster. We have a forward pack that rolls up the field as good as any if they hold the ball. Some good young talent in the backs - we all thought pre-season we were a DCE off giving it a shake even with Flanno. A Brad Arthur, Bellamy, Hasler, Robinson, Maguire would have this side contending. If there is a coach who reckons he's ready for the big time you'd be ok with our roster, and given the older blokes are all coming off contract you won't be forced to move too many you don't want on early.

So the majority seem to want flanno gone but the biggest issue is the payout. Is there anyway we could get around this by changing his role as opposed to getting rid of him all together?

I'm not sure how it would work in regard to contacts but could the board tell him there is no longer a role for him as head coach but they will honor his contract in another role such as a recruitment manager.
That way he kind of saves face, keeps a job, and we get to benefit from what he's good at. Put a team under him and have recruitment decisions made in conjunction with him, New coach and Lyall.
We can even throw in a man managing role as he's a real nice guy.

It would all come down to the flexibility in the contract so who knows. But from memory the Tigers shifted Sheens into a coaching co-ordinator role or something and appointed Potter in a bid to not have to pay out Sheens, but he didn't want it and left and still got his payout. Again can't really compare without knowing the ins and outs of the contracts.

This is pretty spot on. Especially the bit about teams reflecting their coach in how they go about things.

I've come to see Flanno as a bloke who avoids risk, avoids change, finds excuses and shirks responsibility, but seems to try hard.

Coaching first grade. Its a tough gig not suited to everybody.

Someone had foresight back in the day.

Go out and grind for the full 70, now is the time for another dropped ball, for the sharks are here.........

hahaha nice adaptation.
