the mainstream press seems to indicate that we needed to release smith to sign both ryan and herrington. but the leader indicated
that we did not not release smith to sign these players meaning we would have want ever smith was on to spend on other players.
does anyone know if we do have any cap space left?

Considering we're in talks with a player or two, I'd say we do have some space left.

i hope your right mate, it would make losing smith a bit easier to handle if it meant we picked up another player or two.

Id definately say we are still under the cap, have been so for a long time. I dont however, expect any more top tier players to be signed as was also reported in the Leader last week. I think the top 25 is pretty much set now.

Gone from the top squad
Best
Williams
Gordon
Cordoba
Smith
Frizzel

Replaced by
Gordon
Wright
Ryan
Lewis
Heinington
The young backrower from the Dogs

The players on the 'replaced by' list would obviously be taking up significantly more cap space then those on the 'gone' list. I'm not sure how using these two lists supports your theory on us being under the cap.

I reckon we got Wright and Heighington relatively cheap. Gordon, Dobes and Bests cash would cover them me thinks. Maybe add in a little of Smiths.

Lewis, Gordon and Ryan take up the 800k increase plus some of the cap space left from this year.

Frizzel covers Sopagorororororor

And the player we're talking too would be on the same amount as Williams.

Now if that's how it went I reckon we would have around 120-150k space left.

I agree with Sam but I do think there is room for a Jennings ect just not what his asking for unless we have used it to top up Carney . Cause I don't believe we have had the money before to spend the cap.

No chance. How much do you think Cordoba and Gordon were on?

I'm completely guessing but I'd say around 90-100k each?

I reckon best was on 120k

Add in 100k from Smith.

Surely Heightington and Wright are not on more than 200k each.

I'd like the think we are still under.

Considering we have been a club in recent years who couldn't even afford to reach the cap, we have now come into a bit more cash which gives us some more buffer than previous years... maybe?

Iam not using this list to support my thoughts that we are still under the cap. Iam just showing that the players from the top squad who are leaving have already been replaced, meaning I don't expect to see another top 25 signing. You replace what is leaving or what isn't bring re-signed. You don't just keep adding players.
