Deserved it in 2022, but excelled in 2023
Allegedly. Lack of run meters and missed tackles were a focus IIRC. Could have been a game plan for him to get out of the line first for all we know.

@BurgoShark is a staggered* defensive line a tactic?

I have noticed it in and off. Too much to be not on purpose, but I haven’t heard it mentioned. A defensive line will send every second guy up in their own line, and the others hang back a bit in their own line, so there is two different, albeit spread out, defensive lines or “staggered,” one behind each other.

*not sure if it is the right word.

I can see why it might be a thing though. That first line is up in their face to initiate contact, and the guys behind have a little more time to react to what’s happening. Serving as a a sort of FB at the expense of tighter line of D.

If it is a thing, the fact that they might miss or fall off a tackle becomes expected, but planned around. It would make sense for Nikora to be one of those guys up early. He’s fast, mobile, strong, a lot quicker to react if there is a fall off etc.

If I’ve got that guy putting that extra effort in, I’m probably going to try and lighten his offensive work load because of how valuable those unnoticed efforts were.

It could not be a thing and I’ve just been typing out my ass for the last 5 minutes, if that’s the case… carry on

Haha I'd say it's closer to this than anything else. Stagged line or presenting 2 lots of 2 instead of a line is a terrible idea.

4 man definitely makes defensive decisions though. Pretty common for them to come in and try to shut something down before it gets past them.

Attacking teams do a lot of work on getting to the second rowers, keeping them at marker or catching them on the ground, and trying to isolate the 3 edge defenders on the next play or catch out a big man who isn't quick enough to push across. Hammer try against the Sharks is the first example that comes to mind. Nikora stuck at marker; Kaufusi caught out. https://www.nrl.com/news/2023/05/07/the-hammer-in-open-space/

Has he gone native and changed his name?

With the state of “journalism” these days, we can safely assume the latter

How long you think he is getting? I feel like it might be about a 4 week vacation.
Do we move Talakai and bring Iro in or do we bring Burns up?

What do you think the charge is?

Grade 2 shoulder would be 2 weeks, 3 for a grade 3
Think his last charge was 2021 so shouldn’t add an extra week
