I don't think you want to train it out of him if it's on it's on, he simply has to execute the kick! which means doing extras so next time he has the chance he takes it.

100% - he'll get more right that wrong with first grade experience .
Opposition will not like the fact that anything could be coming at them

I rate him. He's played what 5 or 6 first grade games. Was that his second at half back? Going to make mistakes and wrong options. One thing for sure he's better than Kyle Flannagan. Probably already has more try assists than him too.

I think wearing the 7 it's his first game, he's either been at 6 or off the bench.

And agreed, he's only played 18 games in a position you need experience in. The rest of the year will be so beneficial for him.

It's been mentioned before but a halves coach to work with Hynes and Trindall, if that's the pair we're going with would be very beneficial for them both.

Yeah maybe 9/10 is too high but 1/2 is just silly. He's got an excellent short kicking game and has pulled off similar in lower grades many a times. The pressure and First grade just got to him.

Also we were down by 30, not like the game was on the line.

I have seen no evidence he makes that kick more than a small percentage of the time, his short kicking game is okay at best currently (as far as what he has demonstrated in first grade).
The one he scored off was a complete fluke, and good on him, still worked, but was not the kick he intended.

Whether he just needs more practice against better defenders (line speed, positioning, reflexes etc) or to just cut his nerves down a bit, or probably a bit of both, I do think he will get better at these. He clearly likes short kicks so has confidence in his ability with them.

I said I thought he'd start at halfback ahead of Chad by the end of this year, not sure if I am correct or not sure you are picked ahead of someone who can't possibly be considered...
(actually I think I may have said by the end of next year, I can't remember, the year Chad has had he probably would have got him this year still if he'd stayed)

I've seen enough kicks in Flegg/Toyota cup and for the Jets to suggest the skill set is absolutely there. He won the Flegg GF on the back of his kicking game if I recall correctly - it's been a while.

but yeah his decision making and execution needs work but what 18 game rookie halfback doesn't. He also defn likes to play eyes up and have a crack which I like.

As I said, he obviously backs himself to make those kicks so I have no doubt he has the skills in there, just not quite getting the execution right in his (very limited) first grade experience yet, maybe this time next year that is a more like a 7 or 8 out of 10 opportunity.
But from what I have seen in NRL so far I think same chance next week he most likely cooks it again.

At this stage from what I have seen in NRL I also wouldn't say I am sold on how 'eyes up' he is.
I haven't seen enough of him to assess that he didn't plan that grubber, or plan to run on this play or that play etc
He very may well be just making the call as he sees it, I just personally haven't seen him play enough NRL games as a half to be certain.
Not much point playing eyes up if the execution or correct decision making isn't there either. All will improve with experience, hopefully a lot and he ends up a gun

Fair call mate, I don't think I wrote that very well. I meant more to train out of him that instinct to kick through when it's not on. He engaged the line, then when it doesn't open up, goes for that grubber or a pass and it's too late to make it work. I'm all for a mini Alfie in the team, just needs to adjust his thinking and recognise the right option earlier

I think he’s only played like 6 or 7 games at halfback the rest were off the bench or at Hooker/13

Question to the masses .
Apart from the halfbacks in the top 6 sides
Is there anyone you'd direct swap on a 3 year deal from next year onwards ?
I wouldn't swap him

That probably says more about the current halfbacks of the bottom 10 teams than it does about Trindall, not one of the other 9 has a standout option, with the best others being pretty much either young and promising or hoping Luke Brooks does better at another club.

Yep. Matt Burton and Ben Hunt. Hunt obviously not on 1.2 but he is a good player and would probably thrive again without that crazy price pressure.

Neither named at halfback for a bottom 10 side this week, Burton is both named at 6 and in a top 6 side.
Hunt is fair though although obviously injured this week, he has shown some good but would need to be far below that price tag for me to be interested or us to be able to get him.

If Dragons wanted to get rid of him and offered to pay half next two years of his contract in exchange for Trindall...

Haha some technicalities. I took it as halfbacks that will be in bottom sides from next year, which I guess wasn't completely the question.

I didn't actually realise how old Hunt was (31) so I take that one back for a 3 year deal. I do think he is incredibly underrated, which is bizarre to say for someone on his coin. He is a great halfback and will end up never achieving what he could have.

Hunt is an excellent player when he is in form but since 2016 or whatever he usually hasn't been. he's been disappointing at the merge but then so has norman and others

He isn't underrated at all it's just everyone has become used to him being in mediocre form and can't get passed his GF knock on and massive price tag

from the origin and club games I have seen of Hunt the last few months though he is playing very well though more in line with his ability and potential - I would take a chance on him for sensible coin. we could use an experienced 7 and it doesn't hurt that he can cover 9
he's basically Chad but better

who would st george replace him with though?

As for Trindall I think he is up and in for a big game today - needs some more help and support from others though so he feels less pressure to put on the low % hail mary plays. give him some better options and hopefully he takes them more often
