I think it's a bit harsh to be calling the muffed dropout an error. That new rule lets the kickers off the hook. At worst it cost them an opportunity to win possession and let the Rabbitohs start on tackle 0 instead of tackle 1.

Tricky mostly kicked in play very well and the pass to Katoa was a good end to a well worked team play. I also thought he did well at helping get the team to the right parts of the field to shift from, but outside of that one pass his involvement in shifts was poor and didn't give any quality ball to Wilton or Iro. Par for the course.

Was it what he meant to do?
Iā€™d say no, it was error.

Did it have the outcome we intended from it?
Iā€™d say no, it was an error.

Was it substantially worse than other possible outcomes?
Iā€™d say no to that to, but doesnā€™t make me think it wasnā€™t an error

There is literally no penalty for not kicking the 10 anymore on a dropout. You kick it short theres 3 outcomes: you get it back, they get it or they get a tap restart, unless you get it you're defending about 10m out. Its not the error it used to be.

Or 4: something happens to cause another error or penalty. Then a captainā€™s challenge and 3 minutes of the players standing around looking at the big screen before deciding that the ref got it right in the first place and we do one of those other three things.

Great innovation to make the game more exciting.

I put it in the same category as when he dropped it on the last tackle against the Warriors after showing and going. It didnā€™t measurably change the outcome or cost the team possession or field position so it doesnā€™t belong in an error column but it still contributes to my opinion of his overall game.

He's not what I would call a slick, subtle or flashy player but boy does he have a red hot crack and put in the work. With the rest of the spine starting to weave some magic sometimes that's just what we need from him and it compliments things well.

Loves backing up for a try doesn't he (y)
that is what you need

Now I know I talk this kid up but I just have to say..even though we know his attack/creativeness is good his defence this year has been incredible.

The try savers, the one on ones, the clean ups from kicks, the edge defence.

well done
The ā€œtackling the player without the ball on our try line and NOT being penalisedā€¦..ā€

He's not going to be a superstar but is improving and is becoming a more consistent first grade half , he does his job which is what is what we need with the way we are looking to play .
