In light of Friday night's blunder and the poor state of refereeing this season, do you believe the "Benefit of the Doubt" decision still holds a place in the game, or has it finally run its course?

The whole video ref thing has expired,

Either they are able to use it for any call or get ride of it all together.

Benefit of the doubt is a waste of time, if 2 refs, 2 linesman, 12 cameras can't see it then it didn't happen

**** it off, i really dont know hows the vid ref cant see what we all see, (and we are usually liquored up) but if he cant determine the call, then revert to REFS CALL.
play it as he sees it, and refs desison should be 100% final, no ifs no butslike it or lump it.... IMO.

Video refs get most calls right....yes the one the other night was unbelievable, but, I wouldnt be dumping the whole system due to a few crap calls.

Without them we would have a HEAP more incorrect calls.

I would also give them the right to call on forward passes, if they are unsure due to camera direction etc, then they let it go, but when you see obvious forward passes leading to tries make you wonder why the video ref cant get it right.

Are people really blowing up about Tafua's try? Because that was 100% a try.

The Foran 'knock on' fiasco on the other hand...

The video ref has to stay IMO.

But everytime they completely ***** it up like did with the Foran knock on, well I can see why people wanna get rid of it.

They just have to get it right. I'm not sure what the answer is.

Maybe ex-players are the answer. It seems to work ok on the Judiciary.

I'm not a fan of the benefit of the doubt always resulting in a try, it annoys me if there's say 10 camera angles and 9 of them suggest no try but 1 of them suggests it may be a try so automatically it then becomes a benefit of the doubt try.

If there is doubt, the benefit needs to go with the defending team. How can you award someone a try unless you are 100% sure that they have scored it? Cricket has it right with the fact, an umpire will not put his finger up unless he is 100% sure in his mind that the batsman is out. If there is 1% doubt, he calls it not out.

I am not sure if Paul Mellor, most recently a player has been involved in any clangers but I believe the NRL need to seriously look at recently retired players to sit in the video ref box to help makes decisions.

I know the players dont know all the rules & thats what the ref would be there for but I am suggesting or encouraging the recent retired players in the box more so for a common sense approach which seems to be lacking, especially on the onstruction rule.

Players that come to mind are Hornby, Hindmarsh & our very own Colin Best.

The point is they shouldn't get any obvious decisions wrong - full stop. There is no excuse for this, but it has occurred more than a few times this year - it's well into double figures ffs.

I do agree that the vid ref should be able to "advise" the on field ref (go back to one, two is just stupid) on forward passes, off the ball fouls etc.

the actual existence of the video ref isn't the reason for the video ref making **** ups. these mistakes are made for any/all of three reasons: incompetence; technology; interpretations of rules.

incompetence can be fixed with training, education, practice and accountability.

technology: hi speed HD cameras in several key spots at the game. last i checked there was only one per game. the video ref needs to be monitoring in HD on a decent sized screen. we know for a fact they're watching tiny little CRT tvs. that's unacceptable and a cause for error.

rules: certain rules ie obstruction, need to be written, explained and demonstrated in a way that leaves no grey area. rules can not be open to interpretation or opinion. they must be black and white.

fix this ****, the video reffing and some of the other reffing is on its way to repair.

This is the single most important thing that needs fixing in our game at the minute
