Lost at sea.
It has been said a few times, but I still can't get my head around why the likes of Manly have gotten out of all of this. Their program with that bloke ran a lot longer than ours did and we are the only ones being pinged for it. Has always seemed odd.

i wonder if anyone fishing has found those laptops sitting on the bottom of long reef yet.

I don't hate Flanno, but I am extremely disappointed that the Head Coach of MY club has taken absolutely zero responsibility and blamed "the system" rather than himself as the HEAD of Football.

He deserves ALL of the criticism he has received to this point.

I would be far more forgiving if he said "I didn't know what was happening, but as the Head of the Football Department, I take responsibility". My fear is that he will still carry a very large chip on his shoulder when he returns to the Club.

Re-appointing him for a further 3 years was a dreadful decision.
The best situation for the club is these six month bans (if they are IRON CLAD). However, having thought about it from a player's perspective I wouldn't take it if I was a player. The reason being, Sandor Earl went down the path of cooperation and instead of six months he is facing four years. Now whether or not this is justified or not I don't know, but coming clean (if the allegations are true) looks to me to be a very dangerous path.

The point I want to make from the above is, if players do cop six months and we get the best case scenario, will Flanno resign? Even James Hird has said he will resign if players get bans, although he has recently tried to unsay a lot of things he said officially over the last 18 months. Hird will be forced out if players get bans regardless.

Will Flanno resign if players get bans?

Looking into my crystal ball I see the conversation going like this.

ASADA "We have all we need to issue please explain letters, we don't need to prove you took anything gents we just need to suspect, and we do suspect. You need to prove you didn't take anything which let me tell you now you won't be able to"

Players "thats ****ed you can't do that"

ASADA "We can and we will. So you have two choices now, we are pretty sure some of you kept seeing Dank and we are pretty sure your coach knew what was happening and let you guys astray, we can offer you end this now 6 month bans full pay - you keep that bit quiet though - but you need to give up the players and coach or.."

Players "nah **** that we ain't snitches you can piss off ********"

ASADA "You should let me finish guys, or you will be suspended for 2 years no pay"

Players "Ok we will talk"

So we will lose a coach and a player (maybe 2) for good and everyone else will be fine and we can move on finally.

Hi Gil

You should be aware that Martin Hardie (the interviewee) is on a retainer with the EFC. He was sitting with the Essendon Silks during last weeks' trial and contributed to written submissions for EFC and James Hird. The article referred to by Ray Hadley that summed it up was this:

Sharks told to stand firm until outcome of Essendon case

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...28647036?nk=5843a87e5f452ccfd0625357e52d4695#

This guy is trying to tell our players what they should or shouldn't do, as doing deals with ASADA could damage the EFC's court case and fight with ASADA. Essendon regard us as nothing but a bunch of peasants, and we should do nothing to help them unless it coincides with our interests. We asked them to cooperate and share information as we were in a similar situation early on and were told to get stuffed by this group. They are not our friend.

Should our players take his advice? I don't know. But that is EFC telling our players what to do to suit the interests of EFC.

Thanks for that.

Looking at it from a different angle certainly has some stench about it.

I just heard it and posted it for those who hadn't heard it.

To be honest I myself don't really care about it anymore,
I just want it to be over so we can all move on and hope that those who have defamed us are bought to so sort of punishment.

Blackest day in sport claim was pathetic, says Abbott

As a little-known Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority amendment bill goes before the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has labelled the so-called blackest day in Australian sport as an "absolutely pathetic" attempt by the previous Labor government to deflect attention from its own woes.

In February last year, Labor ministers Jason Clare and Kate Lundy, flanked by sports chiefs such as then-AFL boss Andrew Demetriou, held a press conference detailing the findings of a year-long anti-doping investigation by the Australian Crime Commission. This focused on links between drugs, match fixing and organised crime, prompting former ASADA chief Richard Ings to label it the blackest day in Australian sport.

But with ASADA claiming few significant scalps since, Abbott took aim on Monday at how the Labor government had handled the matter.

"I'm not saying everything's perfect when it comes to sport and performance-enhancing drugs," he said.

"But far from being the blackest day for Australian sport, it was a black day for politics, it was a black day for the Labor Party."

Speaking on Macquarie Radio, Mr Abbott said Labor's attempt to generate a short-term political distraction, as it was in "all sorts of trouble", had been "silly, squalid, sordid" and "absolutely pathetic".

Mr Abbott's comments come as an amended ASADA bill attempts to strengthen the anti-doping body's investigative and intelligence gathering, while also scrapping the Register of Findings, which athletes are placed on after being issued with show-cause notices. There is also a proposal that sporting organisations ban coaches and support staff from using prohibited substances.

Court documents lodged with the Federal Court show the active involvement the Labor government had in allegedly pressuring ASADA into a "deal with AFL" in the Bombers' supplements probe. The government's role has been used by the Bombers in court to argue the joint probe last year by the AFL and ASADA, the latter an independent body, was unlawful.

It could be at least another month before Federal Court judge John Middleton releases his verdict. While the Bombers argue there may have been political interference in the ASADA investigation, chairman Paul Little, interestingly, has said the Bombers could seek federal government help to permanently stop any further action against the club by ASADA should they lose the case.

That is cool.

I'm just saying their interests and ours are very different now. We stand to lose two players that matter from our group for six months (some in the main season). By and large it is no big deal. Essendon on the other hand stand to lose twenty five players which will destroy their season (not to mention they may now be looking at two year bans).

Agree about it being over.

It's a bit like at work.

When things go wrong, it's one persons fault.

When things go right, everyone did it.

Take it for what its worth. Have a couple of mates who work for Sportsbet. And there company has heard that ASADA will be handing out bans before this weekends games.

No idea if there legit or not but they normally know some things before it happens so take it for what its worth

It's good how they get to know stuff before it happens but if a punter knows it's a crime...

Fair enough. They are probably readying themselves for it though just in case. I thought the meetings weren't until tomorrow. None of the parties know what is going to happen yet surely.

As slide says, if they do somehow know, it is a disgrace.

* I can't see how players can take deals, though I wish they would for the sake of the club. As I understand it, it is virtually impossible to do a water tight deal, as WADA will come over the top regardless of promises by Ben McDevitt. Players will end up in the same boat as Sandor Earl IMHO. I can't see it happening. John Coates has said they are going to be treated as Olympians today (mentioned in earlier posts). His comments reported earlier today are so strident it must put the deals being offered by ASADA off the table. Coates is the head of the CAS which will hear any WADA appeals.
