The players are - Paul Gallen, Wade Graham, Nathan Gardner, Anthony Tupou, John Morris (still contracted this year)

According to the Tele they have all been offered a chance to admit guilt and be given a 1 year sentence backdated to November 1st last year. Meaning they could all start pre-season.

If true and the players don't take this they can get stuffed and I hope they cop 2 years. Seriously its like getting no suspension at all.

Especially if you're someone young like Wade with quite a few years left in the game, he has quite a bit to lose financially if he copped two years at this stage of his career.

If we lose a coach over this can it please be swift. We ain't going to recruit anyone if our coach is circling the airport over the off season.

At least this is some movement forward. Hope it is resolved rather quickly now and the boys can prep for next season etc. Still it pisses me off to no end that other teams that had the same suppliment program running, but for a longer period of time are getting away with it whilst they rape us. It is down right corrupt.

I don't think it will make much difference for 2015 anyway, CHOGM. I don't think there's much out there worth signing for next year. I would like it to be well and truly out of the way by 1 November though because I'd like us to go all out for Ben Hunt or Sezer for 2016.

Apparently to November 1 last year. There must be something significant that happened on this date last year. I've no idea what it is though.

Its generally the start of a players contract term. So any player not on contract for next year will not be unduly affected by the ban as in it will not harm their chances of getting a new contract.

Very fair.

I don't understand how a penalty can be backdated in this situation. It's not like a criminal conviction where the person has been held in custody prior to the verdict.

Yep. That was exactly what I was thinking.

If they take that deal and accept guilt, then WADA will likely appeal it if John Coates is to be believed. John Coates is currently the head of the CAS.

John Coates has been reported as saying they are expected to be treated as Olympic athletes. Considering we won't be playing in september the punishment is about the same a high tackle as it is for drug cheating.

I guess financial and emotional damage that has been caused by the ongoing investigation?

WADA will appeal for sure but have a look through how many times WADA has appealed and lost - once they lose thats the end of it they don't go and ban the country etc like the media was going on about.

Yeah I heard the banning of the country stuff was crap which is a relief (I love the Olympics etc).

I have never been in the "I think ASADA is incompetent camp", but Ben McDevitt looks shifty to me. These deals sounds too good to be true.

ASADA ISSUES 'SHOW CAUSE' NOTICES TO NRL PLAYERS
20 August 2014

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) today commenced issuing ‘show cause’ notices to current and former players from the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks Football Club.

A total of 17 ‘show cause’ notices are to be issued in accordance with the ASADA Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) responsibilities under the ASADA Act and relate to the use of prohibited substances, CJC-1295 and GHRP-6, during the 2011 season.

The decision to issue ‘show cause’ notices by ASADA CEO, Ben McDevitt is based on evidence collected during the 16 month investigation.
Prior to issuing the ‘show cause’ notices the evidence was reviewed by former Federal Court Judge the Hon. Garry Downes and ASADA senior legal counsel. Based on his assessment of the evidence, the ASADA CEO has reached the conclusion that the players have a case to answer under the World Anti-Doping Code.

Once the ASADA CEO reaches a conclusion that a possible violation has occurred, it is his duty under legislation to put formal allegations to players and invite them to respond.

Players have ten days to lodge a submission in response to the ‘show cause’ notices. This information along with the evidence collected by ASADA will be put to the independent Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel (the Panel) for consideration.

In the event the Panel enters a player onto the Register of Findings, the player will be offered an opportunity to have their matter heard before the NRL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Should a matter proceed to the NRL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal, it will be responsible for assessing the evidence and player submissions before delivering a judgment.

Rights of appeal are offered to parties under the World Anti-Doping Code.

In the event a player waives their right to a hearing, the NRL will decide the appropriate sanction in accordance with its anti-doping policy.

The World Anti-Doping Code’s Prohibited List categorises CJC-1295 and GHRP-6 under S2 ‘Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors and Related Substances’. Anyone considering the use of these substances should be aware that they may result in potentially serious health consequences. GHRP-6 is not approved for human use in Australia.

ASADA is unable to discuss the specifics of the ‘show cause’ notices while matters remain ongoing.
