Agreed. I'm not really a massive Vossy fan but he at least was professional and seemed to genuinely try to know a lot about what's going on. Stark contrast to Freeman for example.

I agree, Vossy isnt an ex footy player, which helps, he is an actually commentator, and media guy, not some dope out there just trying to get his ugly mug on tv.

He has a sense of humour, on the Sunday Roast he lets the jokes role, but doesnt keep **** going like Gould does. If anything of the Footy Show/SUnday Roast teams, he is the glue, if it was all just ex footy stars, itd be an idiot fest, and it wouldnt make any friggen sense

100% agree with that

i like the monday night and super saturdayhost ryan pheelan or what ever his name is

straight shooter, calls it how it is and is very accurate. took his time getting into that role, but him and andy raymond have very good views and points on the game

Phelan is a bit stiff in his delivery but yeah I prefer guys that are just professional about their jobs rather than being ridiculously biased ********s.

yeh i got that on his delivery at the start, but towards the end of the season he just seemed to flow

once he had the balls to cut gordie and del off for being dribblers he was very good to listen to

his analysis of the game is very good, best on fox

Channel Ten to attempt to snatch NRL broadcast rights from Channel Nine

Andrew Webster The Daily Telegraph February 16, 2012 12:00AM

CHANNEL 10's newly appointed chairman Lachlan Murdoch and his chief executive James Warburton are set to make an audacious bid to snatch the NRL broadcast rights from Nine.

The Daily Telegraph can today reveal Ten has dramatically ramped up its interest in the game in recent months, so much so that it is already working out budgets to televise all eight matches per week.

Until recently, its interest had been confined to high-rating Friday or Monday night matches - but that has changed. "We want it all," said one Ten source last night.

NRL chief executive David Gallop confirmed last night that Murdoch and Warburton had indicated a stronger interest than just one game a week in recent negotiations.

"That simply confirms the conversations we've had with James Warburton and Lachlan Murdoch in recent weeks," Gallop said. "If you're running a network and there's the possibility of getting your hands on over 30 weeks of high-rating cross-demographic content, you would be mad not to be interested."

The NRL is banking on a $1 billion payday from its next broadcast deal, which expires at the end of this year.

Gallop has long advocated the game would be willing to break up the television rights in order to bump up the value of the next deal.

It is understood Seven remains keen to broadcast State of Origin, although industry insiders said it has not discounted the idea of showing more matches.

Ten had appeared to lose interest in rugby league last year when it announced dedicated sports channel One HD would shift its focus to entertainment to take on Seven's digital channel 7mate.

But it is understood Ten has now gone so far to start discussing possible commentary line-ups and production schedules to accommodate being the No. 1 rugby league broadcaster.

Murdoch, who was appointed chairman of Ten earlier this week, knows that Ten desperately needs high quality content on his network. There is also enormous pressure on the newly formed ARL Commission to strike a $1 billion-plus broadcast deal.

Chairman John Grant revealed last week that negotiations with current rights holders Nine and Fox Sports had started on February 1.

"Subject to our legal obligations, we would certainly consider breaking up our packages," Gallop said. "We are in exclusive negotiating periods with our incumbent rights holders but subject to that we are obviously interested in the other possibilities."

Ten remained tight-lipped on the network's interest in the rights last night. "We look at all sports rights as they become available," the spokesperson said.

i hope it stays the same as to have one free to air channel 7,9,10 do all the NRL games and still have the choice of watching the foxtel games,

I would hate to see see example ch 9 show do the weekend games and ch 7 or 10 do the S.O.O games it would get to confusing.

even though i dislike some of the ex NRL players commentating i get used to their voices

Well that doesn't surprise me from Ten/Murdoch and that's what we want to hear one channel wanting the lot its also very good for clubs that have to put up with being shown on fox constantly, fantastic for sponsorship for the same clubs.

If TEN were to buy the rights to all games, the likelihood is that they'd onsell some of the games to Foxtel anyway.

But we shall see!

Well whoever gets it i hope they utilize the HD channels. It is such a waste watching on standard when better technology is freely available.

I hope they get it. Why isn't a saturday night game played on 9 atm? All they have is movies and if someone wants to watch an old movie they'll go to the video shop.

Does 10 still have rights to AFL? The last thing we need is to be shafted behind them. The NRL must strongly stipulate what time games must be shown etc, no matter who gets the rights.

I think it is just 7 and fox now.

Why the hell do they get a footy channel all for themselves? As if they will have enough to show on the channel. League should have their own fox channel and broadcast all toyota cup games, NSW cup games and QLD cup games either live or on delay plus the NRL games they would usually get.

If only eddie mcquire was a league nut...

I love your idea, and I would watch that channel religiously.

But back in reality, who's paying to televise all that?

I'm sure the match of the round of NSW Cup would be of reasonable quality. But some of those games would be played at tiny suburban grounds with friends and family only in attendance. Who's paying for the TV crews to go out there?

I suppose the first thing to do is bring back proper Reserve Grade and play all matches before the NRL. Then the TV crews are already there. But you still gotta pay the wages.

Can't see it happening.

Yeah it will never happen but what does the AFL channel actually have to show on tv? They have a few games and what about the rest of the time? Must be replay upon replay upon replay.
