As is Graham.

Thing with 4 forward bench is we are barely playing two of our bench players right now, with one being a utility. Is the (in a fully fit team) 9th best forward in the top 30 really better than having a 'just in case' utility?
Is splitting his 10-15 mins at best over the other 8 forwards worse than having wider injury cover?
With injury that 4th forward may be the 10th or 11th best forward in the top 30, likely well outside the top 20 best players. Seems pretty legit with amount of HIAs and sinbins we are seeing currently the correct answer will be carry someone with wide reaching utility value rather than a 4th forward who may hardly get on.

Yeah it would have to depend on who’s available whether 4 forwards work.

With possible forward signings (Finucane/Liu) we could end up with a possible bench of Rudolf, Uele, Hunt, Talakai or Williams A bench like that could excite me if rotated properly. Brailey can even have a short rest then for McInnes to allow Brailey to get more out of his running game.

But yeah it would all depend on who’s available to play on the bench at the time.

Wow is it really true, as reported Dugan, Woods AND Johnston been told to look around.

Yep said it earlier this year - club did not want Woods and Dugan and Moylan not going to re sign them ... I think Fitz might be the one that has pushed for Moylan to stay.

With SJ that is something that has happened after Morris got the axe

well definitely not talking to finucane.

when fitz was interviewed the other week, 'the breaking silence interview' after we missed on Arey. he said the club was talking to a number of players whilst also focus on who he is currently there. well I interpreted it that way. so I assumed there might be some others in the mix.

Metcalf will be very close to ready by next season also .. he’s been playing well at Newtown

A Hynes/Metcalf combo would be electric, but very green. I hope we see him get a game or two in grade now he is eligible.

According to Mooney tonight we aren’t talking to Finucane

According to kent and geyer last night Finucane was close to a done deal and very likely to follow Nico to the sharks

it could simply be a matter of the club putting out some misinformation to down play our interest and talks with Dale or that we have actually kept it under raps the entire time and some media commenators are just putting 2 and 2 together and taking a punt that we are a good chance to sign Dale with no actual evidence of this.

I wonder if SJ liked Bomber because he let him get away with things whereas Fitzy won’t.

SJ played some good footy under bomber and SJ publicly stated JMO helped him with his game / supported him ect.

Yep, if we could get one experienced middle then a strike outside back we'd be in a good spot. I don't think there are any genuine speedsters out there but someone like Gagai could look real good in the centres for us.

Gagai would be a good get to partner Ramien and keep Chambers on as depth

Yep true.

We're still lacking raw speed in the backline, we need to address that imo.

I wonder if stats for tries scored from inside your own 50 are available? I'm betting we're bottom 2 or 3.

I know what your getting at as we rarely put away chances where we make a break from within our half ect but does it matter when I would take a punt we score alot of points with the oppositions 20?

Article from the courier mail.

I thought Fitz was keen on SJ - did he get cock blocked by the board/club on this decision . isn't he supposed to be the head coach putting together the team he wants?

Wow, just wow.

I really hope we have something in the pipeline for a halfback.

Moylan will not ****ing work, people think Chad has a bad kicking game.

Bad kicking game vs. no kicking game is an interesting proposition

honestly though Moylan's kicking in 2018 was pretty nice, he can do it. as a 'game controlling' half no I dont think so. but is it coaching or confidence preventing him kicking from the 6? props a bit of both

Is there anyone here who actually thinks a Hynes/Moylan combination will work??? I know Hynes has an ok kicking game but it’s not at the point that he could take on the primary kicking duties and steer the team around. Moylan’s kicking game is like my abs. Long gone. I just don’t get what Fitz is thinking here.

I really don’t like the idea of giving up on Uele. He had a rough start to the year but there’s too much upside there to throw it away. As a bench prop he might excel.

I wonder if Moylan is being kept on the cheap to keep Kennedy honest? more likely to fill that 14 role as I think Mozzas FB days are done. surely Trindal / Hynes makes more sense as the long term halves plan.

Agree on Uele, no way do you release that player , not on the basis of a couple average games for a bloke who has shown so much potential ability wise and commitment to turn things around. you cut Billy M, Woods ect there is no reason not to keep Uele around. at worst is depth

Quick work to fix Flannos mistakes. Great stuff.

easy to say in hindsight - Mozza, SJ and Duges have all been overpaid relative to their output but that's the nature of the market, they have all performed for us at one stage or another mixed with disappointing injuries and form slumps. the age we signed them at in theory they should have been in their prime with the mix of experience and young enough to still perform at a high standard. if we didn't sign them would out position be that much superior to where we are right now? Yes maybe Flanno got a bit cocky splashing the cash and expecting to make it work but he kinda earned that and had runs on the board for the club.

Mozza had a good 2018, SJ a good 2019 and Duges post 2019 has been a solid consistent performer until just recently

Maybe if Flanno he didn't get the punt for JMO to take over Flanno could have done more with the squad and found some success but horrendous luck with injuries crueled us either way and you just cannot replace players like Ennis, Lewis ect

Woods was a good signing considering dogs were paying most his wage initially and turned out to be a pretty good forward for us

Gagai plays four good games a year, and three of them are for QLD.

And probably expects to be paid at the rate those good games deserves and not the rate he gives you on average

Happy to see Woods be shown the door.
I would have liked to have kept Dugan on a lower contract but whatevs.

That Johnston though.

Never heard of him.

Can I just ask where all this talk of Gagai is coming from or is all just pure bull**** & there is no truth to that?

With SJ,
I can only think that it is a similar situation as the one between “Dufty” and the Goons.
“Irreconcilable differences” your honour, or maybe Fitz just called his bluff.

Shame as I was hoping for an SJ/Nicho pairing next season.

Dugan
Unfortunately the game has past Dugan by I think. Still gives 110% for us but his 110% isn’t good enough for most of the time anymore. Will still have some WOW moments no doubt, but even a broken clock is correct twice a day, but not so relevant for the rest of the day.

Woods
Great bloke off the field. A fun loving, good humoured larrikin with a good heart. But gee he can be lazy at times on the footy field and frustrating as all hell.
I think again like Dugan, the speed of the game is passing him by and is too much of a change for him and if we do have some irons in the fire, then he is the one that makes way for mine.

Fifita
I love this bloke but I think he has dodged a bullet given how Fitz is looking to build “his” own roster (or maybe it’s that Fitz hasn’t had the conversation with him??? Who knows?).
I’m hoping he goes on his terms thou and has a rewarding stint in the UK (topping up his super) alongside David from next season.
I’d rather that, than him languishing in a Jets jersey (no offence to the Jets).

I'm sure Fifs would be gone if he was off-contract like the others, mate.

I'm not sure if Fifita has dodged a bullet. More likely that he is still contracted for next year so not much they can do about it (in public at least).

If they told him now he is not wanted he could just stop trying, put on 30kgs and just sit back in reserve grade for next 18 months.

They need to keep him motivated to train hard, get his body right and try and crack back into starting side.
