I'm not sure if Fifita has dodged a bullet. More likely that he is still contracted for next year so not much they can do about it (in public at least).

If they told him now he is not wanted he could just stop trying, put on 30kgs and just sit back in reserve grade for next 18 months.

They need to keep him motivated to train hard, get his body right and try and crack back into starting side.

Wouldn’t be the first time a player has been told to look elsewhere mid contract thou.

I get the feeling the way he helped us get Nicho that it hasn't happened yet. Personally I think we'll let him stick around next year. He's 32 next year so next year will be his last with how he's body is holding up.

He probably wants to stick it to Bomber and see Fitz succeed haha

I Would love to see him playing some good footy don’t get me wrong so I hope we get some value out of it and he isn’t just chewing up $700ish of our cap thou.

Same.

He's obviously past his best but if we could get 20 valuable minutes from him off the bench I'd be happy with that, could really do with his leadership.

Big call keeping Mylan over SJ, I hope they sign another half from somewhere

It is... and I'd prefer SJ. But it sounds like it wasn't an option. I don't think we'll know the whole story (not for a long while anyway), but it seems like SJ is being offered a deal that he finds insulting and he's burnt some bridges in expressing it. Fitz tried to salvage things but I bet the board wouldn't budge on the offer, and SJ wouldn't accept it. All fair enough, though not that smart from SJ. I do think SJ will get a better deal elsewhere. He'll play out this year, be a gun, and secure a tidy contract to see out his career as a result (crazily enough, it won't be on Chad money..!).

The thing I think that won't make the board budge is the option of Moylan for one year at a good clip. Trindall has been told he's part of the 'plan', so Tricky gets a year to develop his game, more first grade experience in a few positions, and hopefully shows he can step in next year with a then 25 year old Hynes who has a couple of seasons under his belt and is ready to help steer the side around.

The other rumour is that we're speaking to a few on and off contract players right now... we could nab someone ready to jump!

I find it hard to believe the board wouldn't budge if Fitz wanted to keep him (unless there were salary cap concerns). To me this is soley Fitz decision on how much he was willing to pay (and if he wanted him).

I think more than likely Fitz has other plans in motion (whether for next year or year after).

Could be. Like I said, I wouldn't expect the full story to come out for a long while.
What was being bandied about though was that Fitz wanted him and the board didn't

I've seen nothing mentioned apart from this forum.
Other than media speculation playing chess as to who fits where, the last I heard Rabbitohs have commenced negotiations, he wants to stay but I guess it comes down to what they offer him. He may have to take a cut but not significant one. No doubt he'll have a good SOO to bolster his value.

Buzz:

The rumour will not go away that veteran halfback Mitchell Pearce could finish up at the Cronulla Sharks next season, despite the fact he recently signed a one-year extension at the Newcastle Knights.

He is certainly highly regarded by incoming coach Craig Fitzgibbon. The Knights recently signed Cowboys halfback Jake Clifford.

Wonder if this is written to somehow stir SJ into a commitment or if that ship has sailed and its Moylan trying to up the anti in negotiations... I’d b happy enough to welcome him add finnacane and that would be a insane roster overhaul
