A fellow sharkies fan told me on the weekend his theory with Holmes.

He thinks Holmes isnt going anywhere. He suggested Holmes has not agreed to the extension for the simple reason he thinks he is worth more to the sharks. His theory was Holmes was backing himself to play out of skin for the remainder of the year and push his value up and get an upgraded extension to which Holmes will almost certainly sign.

Apparently we have "expressed" interest in Munster in light of "probable" departure of Holmes

How you wish to define and emphasise the "words" is up to interpretation

Next year I reckon. If we sign Barba I'd be very surprised if we have Val next year, contract or not.

Yeah true, I suppose it depends on how cap and desperate the Cowboys are to get him next year. I can't see Flanno just giving him up for free.

I see your theory and raise you a theory that he's maybe waiting till he can negotiate with the Cowboys and Sharks at the same time. If he says no to the Sharks now then the Cowboys know they're in the box seat and will not need to offer him as much. If he waits till both clubs can negotiate then the Cowboys will need to put in a similar offer you'd think to get him.

That can backfire if the Sharks get the ****s and just sign Barba now to cover themselves, which I think they should.

True. Given the way he's been going at FB I think he'd drop his head massively on the wing next year. I think he'd be sooking it up big time.

He's probably a top 3 player in the league right now at 1 - why would anyone want to send him back to the wing ... Barba or no Barba?

Thinking about 2020 I guess.

**** 2020, who knows what will happen between now and then. keep Holmes happy at the back and challenge this year and next year for the title. We are in a prime position to potentially win it again this year or next year if we dont get any major injuries.

I was posting in response to the talk of Barba being back next year. If that eventuates then Val won't be playing FB.

My thinking on the whole Val thing is he's going to sign with cowboys (hopeful he doesn't ) but won't announce until after the season as to not cop backlash over his decision, bird signed earlier on and copped heaps of **** over it. I don't know just a thought.

I don't think he'll cop the same treatment as Bird. Val won't be leaving for money or to better develop his game (worked well for Bird).
