I'm not suggesting they haven't spoken at all. Just point out the idiocy of "why does he have to wait until the end of the season to make a decision?"

Yep fair call.

Why we are under the cap this year by 500k it's not like we are currently cheating the cap. We'd be crazy not to pursue the players we are interested in because of us stuffing up in the past.

The Club may be fearful of receiving a reduced cap for next year as part of any penalties, like Manly.

Still, we need to prepare for next year, can't sit around waiting for the NRL to take 25 years to complete their investigation.

IMHO Because we are not sure (but the club will be) which 3rd party pmt went to the which player in 2015. Plus we have just lost a major sponsor for next year.

The third party payment argument doesn't really make much sense to me. This is a past issue not a current one.

Having just lost a major sponsor, do you mean this because you think signing Barba would make it harder to find a new one?

I'm thinking that IF the player(yet to be revealed) in question, is one BB, then it best we stay away from the future signing commentary, for several reasons, inc Sponsorship.

It's said the player was doing his lap of honour after the final, but Barba was still under contract for 2017 at that point.

Which would make you believe it would be either Ennis, Heighnington or Tagatese.

The player that received the payment has nothing to do with how it was paid.
All they know is that they are due X under their contract and they get it in their bank account.
The NRL shouldn’t care who the recipient of the money was either. They should only investigate if the payment itself was within the rules or not.
Therefore a decision to go after BB or not because of this shouldn’t be a part of the consideration.

Just my opinion.

I think you are reading too much into that Flanno.
They all “did a lap of honour” even the players that didn’t play.

Cowboys-people (incl. Michael Morgan) have openly said they're chasing Holmes.

Policing negotiations with contracted players is about as impossible as policing the bloody salary cap.

It's probably a but naive to think ballpark figures haven't been discussed with the Cows.

You can't stop people talking. You can stop them lodging formal contracts before a certain date and I think that is all the rules really can be expected to do. There may be a totally nutted out Cowboys contract sitting in someone's drawer in Townsville and 2 plane tickets to Townsville booked for V. Holmes departing on November 1, just as long as when they send it into the NRL the signature isn't dated prior to November.

Tapau won’t be at manly next year. 5 clubs are interested in signing him. We’re one of them.

The only off contract players that would be worth getting would be: 2019 - Cameron Munster, Shaun Johnson and Nathan Cleary. 2020 - Tom Trbojevic and Cody Walker.

Few others worth a depth gamble but if you couldn't land one of those for 2020/21, id be getting Barba on a two year deal and scoping out what youth is coming through across those years.

Realistically Walker and Munster would be the only ones likely imo. Can't see the others leaving their clubs.
