Why do you think he isn't announcing till after the season ? HB

A few reasons I can think of

Sharks have put all contract negotiations on hold till end of season. He's not off contract until November 2020 and as Tank said that means no formal offer can be made by any other club until November so he has nothing to announce yet be it a Cowboys deal or Sharks extension.

2020 is an option in his favor though. Really he's contracted until end of next year.

Yeah supposedly mate. Who knows what managers get up to though.

Oh of course but regardless how deep in negotiations the Cows might be with Val they can't give him a formal offer till November so Val has no deal he can formally accept and announce yet.

Why?

- doesn't want negativity from the supporters until after his last game
- doesn't want to affect his team mates in the finals

But he may stay, then we have to ask ourselves why hasn't he accepted our deal?

- wants a bidding war between both clubs
- he is leaving and doesn't want to upset the team / supporters

If he was happy at the club and the deal he would have signed already. I'd say he is gone.

So will likely miss out on Barba also, Capewell will be out fullback haha

I really don't know what's so hard to understand about the fact that the Cowboys can't actually offer him anything yet.

yep, how is the bloke able to make a decision without knowing what the competing offer is yet

but perhaps the managers are talking in code to avoid breaking the rules

"I hear that Feb 14 Real Estate prices in Townsville will be sky hi and a better investment than those in Cronulla..."

His manager has probably just told him he is ib the driver's seat. And he definitely is. Waiting until November will only help him.

The open market will drive up his price and then he chooses the overall best offer. It is smart.

Will either us or the Cows imo, regardless of other offers.

It's probably a but naive to think ballpark figures haven't been discussed with the Cows.

I'm not suggesting they haven't spoken at all. Just point out the idiocy of "why does he have to wait until the end of the season to make a decision?"

For the record I personally think we've lost him but regardless unless he was 100% certain he wanted to stay in Cronulla (which he clearly isn't) signing before other clubs are allowed to put in an offer would be moronic.

Well it's smart for him yeah.

But I hope Flano has a new fullback or centre in mind.

Bird / Morris centre

Dugan fullback?

Or pounce on Barba now

I don't think the club should be mentioning Barba, till this salary cap thing is cleared up.

Why we are under the cap this year by 500k it's not like we are currently cheating the cap. We'd be crazy not to pursue the players we are interested in because of us stuffing up in the past.
