Comparing open market value to what a guy is on is silly. Its exactly what maloney is doing. Yeah hes worth a mil if u go off what other players are signing for for 2018 on, but he is not available to negotiate new deals unless its for 2019.

My guess is he wont stay here 2019 on because he didnt get what he wanted for 2018. The club should be commended for not just bowing down to him. Youd offer a deal for 2018 on top of a contract extrnsion, but i would never just upgrade him for the sake of an upgrade.

Because Cronk is better and he's not a baby.

It's debatable whether Cronk's best is better than Maloney's best but Cronk will give you an 8/10 game a lot more often than Maloney IMO.

With the scores locked in a Grand Final with 5 minutes to go, I'd probably rather Maloney in my team because that little dog finds a way to win close games.

If we were 6 points ahead with 5 minutes to go I'd probably prefer Cronk in my team because he knows how to close out a game.

My read is that Maloney was great last season and a key part of winning the comp but his form has been pretty erratic this year. I would be very happy to get Cronk or Moylan and trade Maloney away. His goal kicking remains excellent and he gives away professional penalties when needed, but he has been targeted on too many occasions as the weak link in defense, e.g. Manly game he was awful.
I hope that Flanno replaces him for next year because the best is behind him.

Chad is pretty bad but is prob 3rd choice
