If for whatever reason a player is unhappy at the club, then you have to solve it, or trade them. Or put your head in sand and hope it goes away. We can keep Maloney here next year to make a point about contracts, but the clubs the loser in the end, because unhappy players don't play well.

So we upgrade to make him happy or we trade him. The third option is just dumb.

Thats ****ing bull****. If a players gunna tank cos hes unhappy (about money) hes gunna drive down his asking price. Lets not forget he turns 32 next year. He wanted this pay rise/release for a new deal cos his playing days are drawing to a close. If he doesnt nail down a new deal here or somewhere else by early in the season, his on field performances become even more important to him.
