It's ridiculous to sign with a club 12 months in advance. Not sure how to fix it but there had to be a better way
I can think of plenty.
1. Club transfers are either effective immediately (before june 30) or wait til after season transfer (after july 1)
2. Players can extend with current clubs at any time (1 year early, or 2)
3. Player isnt 'off contract' or free to negotiate until after june 30. That way they arent negotiating all year.
4. Once a player is signed they have a 30 day cooling off period before the contract is registered with the NRL. Not 3 months or any of that dumb ****
5. Current clubs get an instant cap discount (small percentage of contract ammount) every time a player re-signs) 5 grand for every 100k or something. a mil gets you 50k discount. then the standard veteran discounts etc on top
The NRL need to look at ways to not only keep players in the sport, but limit the constant player transfers, players seeking release etc.
Player release. = Cant earn over their current contract amount per season for the remainder of that contract period. Seek release 3 years early, you can only sign the same amount, if you do want to earn more, you pay a penalty fee.
The NRL want integrity but they talk about off field ****. Contracts and contract negotiations are the biggest farce in the sport.
