I'd be betting against Murphy being the answer if I was a betting man. Given the shortage of halfbacks I'm a bit skeptical that no one else picked up a 24 year old playing in a second tier comp.

Also, would we have even signed him if not for Barba?

Odds are we need to sign a halfback or we aren't going top 4.

Paul Green was Qld cup!
He worked out to be a very very handy no. 7 for us, so why not Murphy?

Pull your sleeves down and put the blades away, fellas.

There is a long time between now and 2015 kick off, let alone 2016 and a hell of a lot can (and will) change in the NRL. Reynolds and Keary are gone, everything else is still speculation. Even if we don't get DCE, who knows what'll pop up. We snagged Barba in the blink of an eye. Who would of thought at the beginning of 2014 we'd wind up with Ennis?

We will have someone in the #7 next year and I highly doubt it will be a 33yr old Robbo.

Yep it may well work out, odds are it probably won't though. Would love to wrong.

Yeah i agree, you arent 24 as a half back, never played firsts, and sign interstate with the wooden spoon winners if you are a future first grade star.

But to me, Murphy was never signed as a succession plan for Robson.

Hopefully we will see what he is (or isn't) capable of during the 9's.
Then we will know if we MUST chase a half, or not.

I've got my :hoping that we have one already that hasn't cost us a bomb!

We should know more by Monday I guess.

I'm probably not one to talk after my Sezer comment but **** it its never stopped me before.

Matai is a champ. He goes down injured more often than probably any player but rarely comes off and generally backs up the next week. He has a chronic injury but plays through.

Agree 100%. When was the last time he played a bad game or didn't get involved?

I wish we'd signed him on one of the four or five occasions we've tried.

Lol yeah regarding Matai, he's the exception to the rule because the bastard just plays through the injuries he gets. He just tackles less in those games when he's carrying something (From like 9 tackles a game to 5 tackles a game :No:)

Too much on the stats, Sutty. Low tackle count doesn't take into consideration blokes choosing not to run in his direction.

Yeah I was just guesstimating that time. To be fair Tagataese probably has the same problem a bit, it's hard to rack up tackle counts if you hit like a truck.

To be fair, he had one of the best games of his career towards the end of the season. I can't remember who against, but he was involved in absolutely everything... Very rare for a centre.

but still averages about 8 tries per year, which would not only make him the best centre since ET, it would probably make him the best 1-5 we've had since ET and Peach

So was Tim Smith.

The chances of a special talent being left in the QLD Cup at only 24 when there is such a shortage of quality players in his position are pretty low.

I want him to succeed don't get me wrong but ignoring outside opportunities in the hope he works out would be ignorant.

If we sign someone and Murphy becomes the goods then we are blessed with options.

I think we should be looking at putting Nu Brown there and seeing how that goes. Even if he comes off the bench for Robbo.

Nothing to lose.

Agree. The earlier we find out, the better. Not sure that kind of progressive thinking will prevail though.
