Can't see why Dragons would wanna get rid of their #2 winger? Granted, I haven't read the article.
The clean out has made some players unhappy apparently. I imagine the clean out us what led Jack Bird to stick around as well.
If nightingale is unhappy I would throw a lot of money at him. Perfect compliment to a young backline, real competitor, played at the highest level.

St George Illawarra Dragons looking to start big cleanout of NRL talent

PAUL McGregor is ready to deliver a massive shake-up at St George Illawarra when he starts post-season interviews on Thursday with several players about to be told to find a new club.

There is huge salary cap pressure at the Dragons and McGregor has also decided the playing roster is in need of an overhaul in a bid to build the club back into a premiership force.

The Dragons have missed the finals for three straight years since Wayne Bennett departed and McGregor promised when he took over from Steve Price he would run a rule over the entire football department in his end of year review.

The Daily Telegraph understands some players have already been told they are free to negotiate elsewhere with names mentioned including Jack Stockwell, Dan Hunt, Dylan Farrell and Gerard Beale.

It has also been speculated star winger Brett Morris has asked for a release to join the Bulldogs next year but so far the club has denied this and stated they want to extend Morris’ deal.

Jason Nightingale is another player who could end up looking at his options while Trent Merrin is off contract at the end of next year and is sure to attract plenty of interest.

Understandably, McGregor’s hardline stance has not impressed all the players and there are rumblings coming out of the club.
.
After taking over from Price mid-season, McGregor made no secret of the fact he will do what needs to be done to deliver success and has already hired recruitment guru Peter Mulholland to help restructure where the money is best spent.

Mulholland is a former first grade coach and one of the most respected figures in clubland who has previously had great success at Penrith, the Bulldogs and most recently Newcastle.

The Knights have some of the best young players in the NRL and were Holden Cup minor premiers this year.

When contacted on Wednesday McGregor confirmed player interviews would start on Thursday but he would not be drawn on names until his review was complete.

“I am not going to comment on something that I haven’t officially finished,” McGregor said.

“I am not going to go down that road.

“I have said it originally and you know how straight a shooter I am.

“In a month’s time after I have finished my report I will put it out publicly and I will let everyone know exactly where we are going.

“But at the moment it is two days post last game and it has only just started. The first start for me was recruiting someone like Peter Mulholland whose experience in the game is so valuable.

“I went and said to Peter I need you because this is where we are at. You come back to me with a report to what we need to do.

“I can’t and I won’t speculate.

“I need to talk to the players personally before I go into any evaluation. This happens at every club and at the end of the day it is the players’ decision.”

The Dragons’ cleanout echoes Penrith’s turnover in 2012, when stars Luke Lewis and Michael Jennings departed as part of a rejuvenation that has led to the Panthers’ current success.

On another note, Flanno is due back in 6 days, anyone know what the clubs anticipating here? Do we have a back up plan should he be banned again or have we been given the wink that it's all going to be fine?

Nightingale would walk into our side, won't happen though. Knowing our luck, we'll get Dan Hunt from the Dragons. He and Prior will do wonders for our team *said while dry-heaving*

I wouldn't mind Hunt on a decent sized deal. I think we would be able to get the best out of him.

I wouldn't be over the moon with the signing but we could certainly do worse.

Agreed. We'd be mad not to sign him considering we need more props and no one wants to come here. He lives in the area and he's being moved on so let's get on that. Not that long ago he was very good and is still young.

Hunt can play, he was very good during the time that Bennett was there; They signed him on a long term deal then and has been **** ever since.

If we get him on a smallish deal then that'd be ok, we certainly have the knack of getting props into form. Might be worth considering. Does have some injury concerns and mental problems however, so not worth the risk to bring over on a large salary. He's very good mates with Beau Ryan so that might be of some slight consequence in increasing his chances of coming here.

Being mates with a part time shark didn't help with getting Bunji here, which, sadly, would have really helped our half situation at the moment.

I just don't see Hunt following the transformation Fifita went through, either. I'd sooner use Arona up front.

For a short period of time he was one of the best props in NSW. I'd back us to at least get him back to playing decent footy (better than what a lot of our props have offered this year).

If we can get Gibbs playing good enough footy (in his first year here before the Achilles) to be mentioned as a possible option for State of Origin, I'd back us to get Hunt playing well again.

But *meh*, I don't think we need another prop, we already spend enough of our cap on that department. Even if we lose a couple of blokes like Vave/Arona/Robinson, we still have D. Fifita, Prior and Tagataese under contract and Gal/Fifita will play big minutes if they get on the field.

I dont remember him being very good, just a top 25 player.
He played for country and the PM's team, so while not being elite, it's fair to say he was very good in 2011-2012. I actually thought he was 25 ish but he's 28.

Disagree. We need a prop. Too often we were out muscled this year, even with our first team on the paddock.

That ****ing Rothfield picture = :gal:

He is what makes children afraid of clowns.

C'mon Sutty, the man is like, pro journo sharks lover 4 lyf, don't you know? The heart palpitations this club gives him are stronger than Robert Lui's backhand.

We lost games due to a lack of game plan, end of set kicking and ability, not because our props weren't good enough.
