No to Herbie. We have an unreal back 5 and some good young players coming through. We don't need to be paying overs to bring outside backs here. Even if we were to lose one of Ramien/Katoa. I'd be quite happy filling that role internally and using the extra cap in other positions.

Unless it's Sualli'i, I'd pay overs for him.

Dom Young is being chased by the rabbits. 3 year deal and a shitload more than what the knights are paying him. However knights have said we’re going to do whatever they can to match the offer to keep him there. His manager would be sitting back smiling right now. Multiple teams now to enter a bidding war to sign this bloke. Imo he’s not worth more than 450k currently. He’s a decent player but he’s not that good.

He’s also one serious knee injury away from losing his biggest threat. Speed. If he loses that then he’ll just become a below average winger.

There is only so safe you can play it around not signing a player in case they have a serious career impacting injury.
Even if he was a touch slower he still has some great physical attributes, he'd just need to learn to use them better. Or he could look at building some size and moving positions - Lane is 198cm 110kg, Young 120cm 107kg

Happy to keep our guys and not enter the bidding war for him though

edit: Dom could be 120cm or 200cm, there is no way of knowing

I dunno, I'm not sure I'd want to be giving away 80cm to my opponent in the second row.

crichton has informed penrith he is leaving, have to imagine its for stupid money at centerbury to be an average fullback
This happened 4-5 weeks ago. Dogs have offered around 900k a year across 4 years. Or close to it. Ridiculous money as I don’t rate Crighton that high. Good player but he’s not an elite player.

From Penrith website post today "Penrith Panthers can confirm that the club was notified overnight by Stephen Crichton’s management group that he will be seeking opportunities elsewhere in 2024."

He may well have received offers 4-5 weeks ago (even made his decision) but they are reporting he only directly told them they are out of the race yesterday. Stating it is overnight is a weird amount of detail to go into if not true.

With ratchet he'd reportedly be on 725k with Panthers this season so 900k is a very good jump but not obscene.
It is definitely a gamble in him becoming a good fullback though. Otherwise him on 900k and JAC on 600k makes for a very dangerous but expensive edge...

He's also only 22. 900k is a big gamble, but I'm not writing him off yet.

Crichton goes with the money surely. He’s won GF’s, played origin and kangaroos. What’s left? I reckon the Dolphins will go over the top and get him. He could get 1.2 mill a year for 4 years and be set. Then he’s still young enough to take a pay cut and chase more titles.
