Tapine would be our best forward by a client try mike. But I don’t think we got the money to make it happen unfortunately.
We could’ve if they spent the money properly and upgrade by buying better players and make a massive difference but that’s not the plan it seems

Better at what though? I think we need to redefine what a better player is. Chad is killing it for the Cowboys. Dale has made guys around him far better defensively. You picked argue that Tolman has been out most important forward since he's been here. And I still can't get over people talking about Olam being the best centre in the game!

Players compliment teams and get better by association. Good clubs know how to build those squads. We're doing it now.

Exactly. Looking at our recruitment this year it is obvious we are going for good youth in the forwards, clearly looking at building a forward pack that will provide the foundation for many years. We already have good experience in Finucane and Mcinness, I wouldn't be surprised if we keep one or two of Graham, Fifita and Tolman as depth on budget contracts.

People can say what they want about Fifita and Tolman, but honestly I reckon Fifita would stay on minimum wage even and I wouldn't be surprised if Tolman stayed on 100k a year and they would provide a lot of experience for the young guys.

Graham, may stay as well the only issue I see with him is, that I can't see him staying on a budget contract.

And would be good depth and likely be happy going in and out of the first grade side.

Only issue with keeping all of Fifita, Tolman and Graham would be that that is 3 of our top 30

Would Fitz want to keep all 3?

Is David still playing SL? Think joining him was his preferred way to wrap things up
Yeah - re-signed recently I believe.

Edit - not re-signed. He is coming off contract and has a mutual option. According to David there was a deal in place for Andrew to play with Wakefield this year, but the throat injury nullified it.

That’s a shame. I think Andrew could still get 2 years over there. Milk every cent you can big fella. Then when he finishes bring him back to the club to work with our juniors ect. Or the indigenous/ Polynesia players a mentor or something like that.

And bring a big red-headed northern nutter prop or two back with him

to a degree… is spending 1mil + on Nikora,Moylan then potentially Graham,Tolman etc ensuring your clubs success in the future ?

Im very iffy on all those players especially in context of the future especially now with Moylan & Nikora securing their pay days. These players are mostly average and we haven’t seen them perform at a high level against the better teams

It’s money that is locked in over the next 3 years

Just saying

If the price for Moylan is $375k that's not bad.

Nikora for 3 more years on probably more than 500k hurts. Not happy about that one at all.

Previous suggested price was 1.7mil over 3 years which is more than I’d like to pay for him. Once you’re over 500k a season I think I’d rather look at spending a bit more for an Angus or something.

Alternately while it’s not necessarily what I’d want I’d think you could sign a something like a Murchie + Topine for less and have some competition for the spots.
If all else fails while I prefer keeping him at centre currently we do have Talakai as an option with solid centre backup already on hand

Yeah, I hear you. I'd rather not, but I guess it's the situation we're in with the cattle available at the moment. It looked like Fitz was trying to play Trindall into that 6 jersey but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
I don't mind that we've decided to try and develop our own crop by buying time with these vets. It might not be a premiership winning combo but it's a top 6 side for the next couple of years while we see what we've got coming through. Let's hope there's a couple of stars in there!

Nikora needs to offer more than being a primarily great hole/line runner to justify the reported or estimated wage bracket.

Deadest, if I ever get the opportunity to talk with Fitz & I’d do so respectfully but one of the first topics I’d ask him about is Nikora.

I’d ask him to tell me in his opinion, besides running great lines what does he love about him, where does he want him to specifically improve & in what areas.
I get his a talent, he’s a NZ rep etc but I really think he’s a player that promises a lot or could offer so much more but is not doing so, or hasn’t to date in a consistent game by game or season on season basis.
