And didn’t Price just sign a 2 year extension?
Wouldn't want a coach who can't cop it on the chin anyway.

Same. Never heard of him, but I’ll take a bloke who works under Bellamy before I take two Trent Barretsno to all of them except for Morris and O'brien (only due to the hype around him).

O'Brien spent 11 years with Bellamy. Kearney spent roughly 2-3 year i believe. Walters spent a similar amount of time under him. big difference
Kearney was an assistant there for 5 years.
still not 11 :gal:
Would you take Stephen Kearney or Kevin Walters?
Bellamy could have had a pebble in his shoe for the last 8 weeks and I'd take that pebble as our new coach over Walters or Kearney.
Or Barrett, Ciraldo and Griffin.

Scott Prince JMo's career was nothing like most the blokes on that list. Could be the ultimate mix of average but experienced. You don't play 300 by accident. Sorry for the formatting at the end the list made things **** the gear and I dunno how to fix it. |
Of the top coaches Bennett would have had the best playing career.
John Lang, Tim Sheens and Phil Gould were top players too. Sticky was too (depending on how you feel about him as a top coach). Chris Anderson was another one. Hasler was also an international. You also have Bozo.
Then there is the middle tier of guys who had good first grade careers but weren’t stars: Paul Green, Ivan Cleary, Brian Smith
... but then in addition to the guys you named who weren’t regular first graders you also have guys like Warren Ryan, Matt Elliott and Graham Murray
Ultimately I think the success of Bellamy, Flanagan and Robinson has over-exaggerated the “fringe players can be great coaches” thing. Over time I think there is a normal distribution of players who were stars, good players, or fringe players... which would pretty much be what you’d expect.
Bozo is the only one out of that bunch that was a great player though which is what Cap said. I can't think of too many more great players that made good coaches.
Sticky was very good but there's mo way in hell he's a good coach. From memory he's made the finals once in his last 7 or 8 seasons.
Sticky Finals
- 2016 Raiders (Prelim)
- 2008 Sharks (Prelim)
- 2004 Roosters (Runner Up)
- 2003 Roosters (Runner Up)
- 2002 Roosters (Premiers)
Weird he has never just come 8th and bowed out.
makes week 3 at a minimum or no where near

Bob Fulton is head and shoulders the best player to be a good coach. Immortal. Won three premierships with manly as a player and two as a coach. made two other grand finals. no one is close
Old mate Sticky hey, had a gun side with the Roosters, has done diddly since. How he's still an NRL coach is beyond me.
