Leading into the ad break, channel 9 said ‘Mitchell Pearce to the Sharks’, but I missed the actual story.
Has he signed or not?

If Pearce has 3 clubs solidly on the hook, this could go into January

He will want to get stuck into training ASAP I think it’ll be done by Friday tbh. I still think he’s coming to us. Too many variables with manly ...... and Newcastle was never on his radar

Buzz Rothfield said on 360 tonight last week he thought he was certain to go to Manly but now because of the salary cap issues he's not so sure. Said he'd be meeting with both the Sharks and Knights for a second time this week.

However with Matty Johns on the panel they all put the hard word on him to go to Newcastle, said it would be a the fairytale of 2018.

If he wants to win a comp, but with less pressure and expectation than with Manly he would come to us. Would be the difference for us next year.

All this hard word stuff coming from newy surely is putting him off to be honest. I’d hate having people telling me where he has to go. Sharks are playing this right I think. Flying under the radar, have been very upfront with him about what we are all about. Have said this is how much money we can give you and haven’t been putting pressure on him to make a decision. It’s a no brained really if I was him. Plus we have been keeping Pearce to sharks out of the media where we can. We are the safe option.

Former NRL first grader Jimmy Smith says Newcastle have offered Mitchell Pearce a "five or six" year contract as the race for the playmaker heats up.

Pearce was granted a release by the Roosters after the club signed Cooper Cronk from Melbourne.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Manly - who let five-eighth Blake Green go to the Warriors - but Newcastle and Cronulla are also reportedly interested in the 17-game Origin halfback.

Speaking on Fox Sports Smith revealed that the Knights have offered Pearce a long-term deal.

"They're desperate to get a player like Mitchell Pearce to go there," Smith said.

"A known leader, he's going to be the best trainer there, bringing through a young side, a lot of Roosters players already there in Aidan Guerra, Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Connor Watson.

"So from that point of view it's a really good fit and they've got a lot of space in their cap.

"My understanding is that they've offered him a long-term deal, and when I say 'long,' that's a five or six year deal."

If he accepted the offer, Pearce would be at the Knights until the age of 34.

"What we've seen from players these days is that's a bit of a sweet spot for players retiring," Smith continued.

"Physically, he's such a good athlete and he prepares himself so well, that that would be no problem.

"Whether that's enough to get him across the line, Manly can't offer that length of deal, they can't offer the amount of money that Newcastle's offering either."

Pearce has played 238 games for the Roosters, but made way for Cronk, who signed with the Tricolours on a two-year deal.

Re:Chricton

Whilst I'd love to sign him now I'd be surprised if he commits to anyone this early on. I'm sure his manager is telling him the same too. Have a blinder of a start to the year and watch his value sky rocket. Yes there's a risk he might get injured or have **** form and his price will drop but I think it's more likely he'll be more valuable early in the season.

What if he's a bolter for Origin ? value goes up even more. Though don't think he'll make it this year.
