Will Maloney stay with us or will he head off to a rival club? I hope he stays with us, who knows where we'd end up if he left for no handy replacement.

Maloney owns a few investment properties that I know of . The guy is trying to secure his future. I know if I could get more money for what I am good at I would go for it.

nothin wrong with asking for an upgrade, but expecting is a different thing. hes not the only player in the team. we have other players to re-sign, and spots to fill. We never bargained on paying james more than he is on for 2018. And whats our move? Pay him 900k or more for next year, just cos he wants it? with no certainty about him being here the next few years after that? whats in that for us?

either play for 2018 for the agreed amount then leave if ur pissed with the club, or take an extension for your new value, and the club comes to an agreement on 2018.

To earn the big money you've got to start doing the small things .. like passing the kicking tee to the kids ... and absconding with Bukuya's headgear so you can throw it into the crowd.

His contract situation has been a massive distraction this year. I don't even know if I want him to stay. Seems like a very ****ty thing to do.

I dont think thats true at all. In terms of a distraction. But i do think hes got a chip on his shoulder. I understand wanting more money, who doesnt wanna be paid more. But hes not the only guy whos playing in the nrl below his value due to a previously signed deal.

I reckon it has all blown out of proportion.

A reporter asked him how he felt about all the big contracts being forked out to halves and he replied 'I wouldn't mind getting me some of that' (something along those lines) and the media has just run with that. Surely the club and him are in negotiations, but if any other club are enticing him to break a contract they would be breaking the law, so not sure how that is going on.

Despite all that, I always felt he hadn't earned the right to be named 5/8 for our team on the half century... after one season with so many other players have bled for the club. If he leaves on bad terms at the end of this season, that is going to be even more of a joke.

I don't know Blair, even Flanno acknowledges that Maloney wants to go elsewhere for big bucks. He's done so in a lot of interviews.

On another note, it's like a guy who's sold his second hand car to Flanno and then contacts him to ask for it back because another tire kicker says he would have paid more.

What a gay ****.

Yeah. Blame your manager and take a look in the mirror. Everyone was aware of a much larger salary cap coming with the new Rights deal. He should have signed a one or two year deal and backed himself. Seems to me like he's had a couple of bob each way which is bull****.

With the lower than expected cap increase, the money may have dried up now anyway. It seems the guys with the big deals have probably just been in the right place at the right time.

True. He still would have got far more for next year though if he signed a two year deal when he left Easts. No one to blame other then himself.

Yes, indeed.

Also, the value of these deals should be assessed over a period of time. Maloney will, in relative terms, earn more than Chad over a 10 year career. Whether he earns more or less in any given year is the incorrect way to look at it. The only reason for that is timing.
