After winning us the premiership through his intelligent recruitment decisions and coaching I have enormous faith in Flanno.

However, we are absolutely cracking jokes if we are seriously contemplating letting Maloney go.

There is a report in the Sun Herald today that we will look to sign Aiden Seizer if Maloney goes with the Warriors now firming as his destination.

You have got to be kidding. Yes he is probably being a pain asking for money, but if we want to be competitive, just give it to him, premiership halves don't grow on trees, he is one. Seizer is talented however has done nothing in his career.

Just look at the last three games without Maloney. Beaten by the Titans and the Broncs just put 50 on them, beaten by the Raiders at home and we only defeated the Warriors who are so strong they went down to the Knights yesterday. Yes Maloney isn't responsible for our teams poor defence last night and lack of discipline, although granted he gives away penalties, however he would give the team a steadying confidence that when we are behind on the scoreboard we can come back. Given we've lost Barba and Ennis from our premiership side, we are truly nothing without Maloney.

Just give him the cash.

There's more to the Maloney issue than just giving him more cash. I am told there's some in the club who would be glad to see him go.

No he can't walk, but we need a gun half beyond 2018 and Maloney has 3 good years left in him. If we keep him here next year without extending and upgrading him we have an unhappy player who we are hardly going to get maximum performance out of. I say extend his contract another couple of years with an upgrade, if he is on the open market he's the type of player we'd be chasing.

That's unless there are other issues, which there must be.

The likelihood of him re-signing beyond next year is small anyway

To play where? In mogas position? Doubtful. Theyve got ross, skd, ponga and 89 mata'utia brothers in their 1-5......

Why BlackWhiteBlue? He signed here in the first place, surely staying with a premiership side within driving distance from home is better than moving back to NZ or a basketcase like the Knights?

True but my understanding is they wanted Jackson Hastings to be their 5/8 thought he'd be the next big thing and told Jimmy he wouldn't get a new deal. They now admit they made a big mistake.

No, roosters offered him 2 years, we offered him 3. Thats why this is such bull****. We got the deal over the line with the extra year but now after 1 season (call it 2) he wants the deal he signed changed.

Agree it's dodgy, but I don't want to see more of last night because we stick to our principles. I don't want to see the Sharks become the next Souths, win a comp and then straight down the ladder. We obviously have plenty of gun juniors in the 20s but other than freaks like Cleary, it takes years for them to become first graders.

Well our situation os unique that to let jimmy out of his deal we'd first acquire a quality replacement. Its not just as simple as extend him. Maybe he doesnt want to extend.

My train of thought is going and paying massive overs to Maloney when he is already contracted cause he is a sook would make us more like Souths that paid crazy overs to keeps Inglis and lure Sam burgess back whilst trying keep all his brothers. I love us winning but I'd say our title defence with the loss of 50 percent of our spine, is going ok not great, but last year taught us all about timing our run, we limped into the semis.

Unless we sign a better half than Maloney next year or the year after we are living in dreamland to think we can be a a serious contender . Maloney is being paid way under what he is worth he knows it other clubs know it and his Manager Knows it.

There are very very few Top Half 5/8 s around Chad is an ok 1/2.... BUT NO GAME CHANGER and not real flash under concerted pressure next year we have an ageing pack and from what I can see we have no screaming sure bet Star signings next year.

We either try to keep Maloney happy or look at an average next couple of years......... Ennis and Maloney were 2 of the main Reasons we got to the GF ....and won it.anyone whothinks otherwise is deluded.

Only way i upgrade maloney for 2018 is with a new contract for an additional 2 years. Cant just gove a guy a pay rise cos he wants 1. Poor management on his agents part to go a 3 year deal when the cap was up for review after 2. Clubs cant renogotiate lower salaries for players who go to ****.

agree - and by extending him we can table the current year 'upgrade' deal he has begged for in a way that might keep him happy but ultimately doesn't cost us much more over the coarse of a new contract

i.e. upgrade him for this year but we table an slightly lower offer for the next few years to balance it out. He still gets more money every year than currently but we havn't thrown cash at him for 2017 for the sake of it - we dont want jimmy double dipping on this
