Would rather Maloney than Cronk in our team, we already have a halfback, we don't need two.

exactly right, plus theres the longevity. we could have maloney 2018 then also renew him for 2019-2020 or so. In fact, id rather offer him a new deal with an upgrade to 2018 as a bonus than sign cronk for 1 maybe 2 years.

HOWEVER Cronk mentoring Chad for a few seasons wouldnt be all bad at all

I think what we see now from Chad is what we'll always get from him, I don't see him improving. I'm fine with that as long as we have a quality 5/8 like Jimmy in the team.

cronk will be 34 at the end of this year. think he would be after a 1 year deal then go to fox sports full time

jimmy has just turned 31. still got 3 quality years in him imo

agree, but IMO cronk has 1 of the best attacking kicking games in the game. Would never hurt to bring that to a team. Like either way, 2018 we'd have a strong 6 and 7 with either chad and cronk or maloney and chad, but if cronk was to only want 1 year, then its not really a good move for the club for the future......cronk may be the better player, but lets face it, we've never seen him in a side sans Cam smith (other than the 2008 GF)

I like a pairing of Chad/Maloney better than Cronk/Chad, but maybe Flanno is a) considering what's best for Maloney (big money offer) and b) what's best for the other young halves in the club (the chance to learn from Cronk). Given his son seems the heir apparent I wouldn't be all that surprised.

And we know who that is

What? Im talking about Newy offering Maloney a deal.

As for us, if we are wanting to sign Cronk, we'd need more than 600k to get it done, why not just pay up to maloney?

It might not be as simple as giving Maloney more.

What you're forgetting is that Newcastle have probably offered silly money to both Cronk and Maloney.

Cronk would of knocked it back because he wants to be in Sydney.

Maloney on the other hand is probably keen.

Just hire Cronk as a halves coach when he retires and keep Jim. Best of both worlds.

Well a. If newy have actually tabled an offer theyre ****ed, b. If we can get cronk for his value (near a mil) we can also get maloney for the same, i dont see why the club would consider cronk to be the better option (short and long term) for the club. It seems to me that maloney has kicked up enough of a stink that the club is happy to lose him, but only if they can get a star half before they release him.

Its a shambles.

I wish Rothfield would either hold his cards and shut the F up and/or support another club .

I'd rather he treat the club the same way he treats the others. Shouldn't matter who he supports. He's in the media, he's supposed to be unbiased. That's the way it SHOULD be.

Maloney isn't the kind of guy to improve Newcastle as much as his pay packet would suggest.

Not that it matters. Rothfield is a joke. The retarded mouth piece of the cold wall between the Sharks and Maloney. The Sharks are bluffing with the Cronk thing. Maloney is bluffing that he would go to the Knights.

Can someone pls take the ink out of Buzz's pen or the trackball out of his mouse so he doesn't keep writing this tripe about the sharks!
Hopefully we are looking at an upgrade with an extension for Maloney. Much better long term option.

I must be in the minority because I've liked what I've seen of the tigers prop. Runs straight and hard and makes his tackles, perfect for a bench prop.

Nah he's a good pick up.

26 years old, clean skin as far as I'm aware. This year averages 107m a game, 11m a run, 23 tackles with 1 missed for 0.3 errors across average 42mins a game.

Thats at the Tigers in 2017. A horrible pack of forwards where he has to play half a game, usually on the losing end. If we can condense the workrate into smaller minutes off the bench he will be a constant in our 17 and do a good job. **** has the odd brutal shot in D too which I think we seen him put on Prior a while back. He's got mongrel and I think he'll blossom among our pack.

The Sharks are bluffing with the Cronk thing. Maloney is bluffing that he would go to the Knights.

I think you're right. Both ****ing around a bit. Maloney doesn't wanna go to Newy and Sharks don't want Cronk for 1yr. Both lose out on that. I think a resolution will be found and Jimmy will be a Shark till at least end 2020.

Dillon's off contract IIRC

We should not extend Hino (still goes ok the old dog but it's time). J paulo could fill hino's bench role with added versatility if nothing else.

only advantage of keeping Taga on the books (as opposed to taking a punt on a nuffie) is that he's already in our system, familiar with the team ect. An occasional inspired run or hit in D but overall output/handling is garbage. Make sure is cheapish contract
I would still like another genuine fat **** prop as an option somewhere

What's the go with the Cronk talk? Didn't he confirm he was going into coaching role from 2018?
