Can't remember which Bulldogs forward, but deliberately pushing his forearm against Fifita's throat while was on his back was a low act.

That was Schoupp. Do you reckon that was a direct attempt to get at his throat injury? I just thought it was a bit of niggle. Pretty low act to attack his throat after all he'd been through.

He might not have realised Fifita's history in the heat of the moment, I just hate players doing that regardless.

Yeah Soup went after his head and neck twice, even if he wants to be an aggressive niggly player I don’t think he should do that to Fifita in a trial

I thought that he was going for Fif's most vulnerable spot at the time but that's probably just me looking at things through a sharks-eye lens.

I think it's a pretty typical grubby bit of play @Thresher Shark , I can't imagine it was premeditated (like ripping someones bandages off their head...).
It's a classic alongside the elbow to the head when landing on a downed attacker, the head smashed into the face when the attacker is trying to free themselves to play the ball, the leg twist when you're third man in, or knees when flying late into a try scorer.

All invented by Melbourne, Brisbane or QLD (same things really).

Definitely respect the effort to get back on the field - I did toss out that he may call it after the All Stars as he has shown he's come back and not scared, could have bowed out there.

Not necessarily the best trainer already it's a bit concerning he is thinking about quitting every single preseason session, but he stuck it out.
Will get easier now there are games, especially if he does manage to stay in the 17.

He did play fairly well in trial, definitely well enough to contribute off the bench.

Not sure how to interpret the following

"I kind of shocked Fitzy, he's asking where the magic fountain is," Fifita said.

"Over the last couple of weeks I have really shocked Fitzy and he has seen a change in me.

"Players knew (last year) I would do my job. I got through it in the end."

How good a sign is it that the coach is shocked he looks capable of being a bench NRL forward?
Players just knowing he can do his job is also not the same as the way players (teammates and opposition) used to think about him either.
Doing your job as a depth bench forward is not a great benchmark when you are the highest paid player on a team - my old gripe.

I'd actually be stoked for him if he can play well enough to hold a spot in 17, I hope he can.
A Sharks legend through a lot of adversity!

Probably to do with his injury late last season I suspect.

A bit of the ol' having the cake and eating it too, mate. I'd say HB is right, not many would expect him to come back from that injury, especially with the prospect of doing it to play in reggies again. He's got guts (stop it...), and I'm happy to see him get some time either this week or definitely the next. That would be a great way to bow out, with nothing left to prove. Unless he's thinking "I'll just get in one more Origin and then hang them up, I can do it..." (probably bloody would, too!)

Oh I am aware of the circumstances

I'm not surprised he is at sub 100% of his old self - on one (probably also not great) knee and that whole throat disaster.

We need to see if he can hold a jersey or not. Fitz being impressed by an improvement in him is only so valuable when the main data point we have is he was named in 17 jersey ahead of 0 available top 30 forwards and top 30 backs/halves with 6, 0, 0 and 0 NRL games experience.

He sounds excited by where he is at, and that's great, and he should be - really bad situation he wound up in and great effort to even get through preseason (and then look good in trials). But I don't need to pander my comments to his feelings. The fact Fitz was impressed him and then at the moment we have no evidence he would make the team if any of McInnes, Williams, even Wade was available doesn't fill me with heaps of confidence.

It almost doesn't matter at this point anyway, season is starting and it's his last year, he will give what he can.
I'd love to see him finish season in first grade (maybe even a grand final....), as long as he deserves to be there.

Having the cake and eating it was last season when he got super fat in offseason because he couldn't be bothered eating right but then wanted recognition for managing to shave it back off over preseason.

Not sure what your issue is here? I can't respect him coming back and still have concerns about how good he will be able to go?

No issues mate. You just might not be first choice to give his farewell gala speech :)
