If it stands for "For Keiran Loveridge", can he not just argue it's a personal and private show of support for a mate who's struggling? It's not like anyone not snooping for stories knew what it meant. Surely the media – who prioritised their story over the feelings of the Kelly family – should be shouldering the blame.

It's possible that there is more to this than is being disclosed. Or alternatively, the NSW Police have made an egregious error.

Section 93X of the Crimes Act 1900 (the consorting provision) requires that the person must "habitually consort" with convicted offenders. This requires consorting with at least 2 convicted offenders (i.e. not simply Mr. Loveridge). This suggests that there is more than simply the visit to his old friend in question. Further, it is a defence under section 93Y if the defendant satisfies the court that the consorting was reasonable in the circumstances, which involves consorting that occurs in "lawful custody", as to which this would arguably fall.

If there is not more to the factual circumstances, I am happy to represent Mr. Fifita free of charge.

"The NRL Integrity Unit has advised that it will interview the player early next week and until such times that this process is complete the Club will make no further public comment".

Just the sort of distraction you need when you're attempting to win a semi final and your first premiership ever.

Club Statement

The Club continues to work with the NRL Integrity unit in relation to the NSW Police warning this week to Andrew Fifita with regard to his long standing relationship with Kieran Loveridge and letters he wore on his armband in matches earlier in the season.

While the matter remains ongoing the Club can confirm the following:

The player was visited by members of the NSW Police earlier in the week and put on notice that he cease any further contact with Loveridge based on facts the Police had in relation to the latter’s links to other criminal elements.

In talking with the Police, while emphasising that no allegations of unlawful behaviour have been levelled against Andrew, they confirm that they have issued a verbal warning because they are concerned about the potential for organised crime to infiltrate sport through criminal elements and for NRL players to be unwittingly drawn into that web.

Both the Club and Andrew are totally aligned with the police and the NRL in wishing to protect the game from criminal infiltration and Andrew is fully aware of the need for him to accept the directions given to him.

In relation to assertions that letters worn by Andrew on his armband earlier in the season in any way refer to Loveridge being freed the player vehemently denies them.

To the contrary, while acknowledging that he has known Loveridge since childhood, Andrew states, “I fully understand and accept the seriousness of the crime committed by Loveridge, the devastating impact it has had on the Kelly family and the need for Loveridge to serve his time.

“I want to extend my sincere apologies to the Kelly family for any distress caused to them by having this tragic matter back in the media.”

I can't help but be a bit salty on the timing of all this. Don't read into that thinking conspiracy, just salty on it seems iffy timing is all. As someone else here mentioned, all the players should be issued notices then if they have played against Packer this year, how is that any different.

I hope it doesn't de-rail the team, and distract them. Would like to think not, nonetheless it is still unfortunate to have something like this pop up at the end of the season. Along with that, it seems rather selective. Broncos player gets into some issues at a club or whatever it was, and that was done and dusted right quick. Why is it when it comes to anything Sharks related it gets dragged on for longer than necessary?

Also, Tallis, why the hell would he call for Fif to be suspended. That bloke is a right knob head.
