To be honest it seems like the doctor was placed in a particularly difficult situation. I'm not really down on him for his role.

Prior to this incident he did have a long history with the club. I don't really have an issue with him receiving a life membership, but perhaps it would be a good idea to wait until the whole **** storm clears.

Questions to be put before the board:

1. Based on the platform promises which secured your positions during the previous election, can you inform members on your progress regarding delivered outcomes?

2. In relation to the previous question, can you inform members on the state of sponsorship? Members note the blank space on our current strip. Is it true that the board rejected sponsorship from Tynan Motors? Is the board in a position to reject legitimate business sponsors?

3. Why was the media able to access the Kavanagh Report but not club members?

4. Why do board members feel entitled to a salary when they have failed to deliver on a wide range of their election promises?

5. Why were members not given due notice and a right to object to the refinancing of the debt to a private entity, particularly when it involves the clubs greatest asset?

6. Why were members not informed of the AGM within the requires timeframe? Why have so many members failed to receive notice of an AGM at all?

7. Why is the club structure, until recently, so ideologically opposed to giving young players their NRL debuts? What is the club doing to ensure future players such as Lichaa don't move on due to never getting a shot under current coaching staff?

Can't think of any more off the top of my head.

Sharks face 'perfect storm'

Sharks face 'perfect storm'

By Brad Forrest
March 20, 2014, 6 a.m.

CRONULLA Sharks members attending the annual general meeting tonight and the local derby this Saturday at Remondis Stadium could be excused for thinking their club is caught in the middle of the ‘‘perfect storm’’.

Off the field, the Sharks have lost its head coach Shane Flanagan (suspended until at least September), been fined $1 million (with $400,000 suspended), the ASADA investigation into the club’s 2011 supplements program is ongoing and the club is still without a major sponsor.

On the field, the Sharks have suffered one of the worst, early season injury lists in past decades; the Bulldogs have stolen their most dynamic forward, Andrew Fifita (at least) for next year, and the club will find it hard to replace him.

The Sharks directors will announce tonight a 2013 loss of $1.627 million (versus $1.078m in 2012). However, it could have been much worse. Without an NRL grant increase of $2.648m and interest savings of $1.254m, the loss would have been more than $5.5m.

Overall, Sharks Group revenue rose by $3.006m (NRL grants and some membership subscriptions) and interest costs fell by $1.254m, all other Sharks Group revenue was down or flat.

Sponsorship increased by $281,000 to $4.54m but marketing expenses ballooned by $1.125m to $4.256m.

Total liabilities or debt increased from $17.6m in 2012 to $18.198m, and Group expenses (excluding interest) increased by $4.8m to $26.86m, with the NRL salary cap rising from $4.4m to $5.85m, and ASADA costs and salary cap fines at $1.55m.

The challenge now is for the club — like most Sydney NRL clubs — to increase revenue in the face of rising costs. Revenue from the club’s $300 million Woolooware Bay development is still some years off.

This Saturday, the injury-depleted team, beaten 42-4 by Canterbury Bulldogs on Monday night, meets a new-look and unbeaten Dragons team.

Although the Sharks have Todd Carney and prop Siosaia Vave back from their squad of nine first graders out, and serious doubts about captain Wade Graham playing, the Dragons are unchanged and have added Jack de Belin and Jack Stockwell to an extended bench.

St George local junior Kyle Stanley said of their good win over New Zealand Warriors:

‘‘I think we all did our job, after getting behind early but local derbies are always close, no matter how the teams are going.’’

The derby day is sponsored by the Tynan Motors Group and teams play for the Monty Porter Cup, in memory of former league forward Porter, who played in six premierships winning Dragons teams and went on to become the Sharks inaugural captain in 1967.

Both clubs’ NSW Cup and Holden Cup (under 20s) teams play before the main 7pm NRL game.

i find it difficult to understand how sponsorship has increased and marketing are spending more money that we dont have.

live within your means is being thrown right out the window it seems.

Spending $5.381M to chase $4.54M makes no sense.

It's interesting also that these figures talk about GROUP financials... that is, not only the pretty picture pdf that is available on the sharkies.com.au website but also takes into account Football Club accounts - the ones that were never distributed or available to Football Club members.

If you look at the Leagues Club Annual Report in isolation, it paints a different picture to the one you get when you look at both Leagues Club AND Football Club.

Which offers the obvious question; why wasn't the Football Club financial statements distributed?

certainly does make you wonder and it a serious breach of the clubs constitution. but they are unity, they can do what they like without the memberships permission.

It seems like these guys got swept along in the tidal wave of emotion without any real plan as to how they would actually implement anything, or what kind of changes needed to be made.

This is a disaster.

How quickly things turn. What a depressing read.

I got used to expecting the club to work within their means, fight hard and survive. It seems people may have believed their own hype and thrown money at things that actually require a lot more than that to succeed.

I agree with slide: This is a disaster.

I'm very concerned as to what's going on at the moment.

Last year things were looking prosperous, all of a sudden things have changed.

No sponsors, little sponsor signage at the ground, increased prices, club that has no direction, membership down.

It's as if they are trying to implode the Sharks to free up some extra land,

Seriously, I liked it better when we were in debt, at least we had sponsors, crowds and atmosphere and a board that cared.

At the Titans game there was nothing, there would've been more atmosphere at a Gymea v Caringbah game.

It's okay they've got buzz Slothfield telling the readers how good unity is for the sharks.

That is a massive increase. I wonder where that was spent?

Thats a very good question.

Thats a huge increase and if anything I've noticed less marketing.

Do members have a right know how it was spent ?
