I didn't suggest that they'd move games? (Though I'm be very surprised if Wollongong didn't get some games)

We need to do everything within our power to make Remondis the home ground. I think everyone can agree on that.

Sorry AB, misread your post.

Yes absolutely agree on making Remondis the home ground. It may well be the only way the Sharks can continue to play there long term.

I don't like the idea of a team playing out of more than 1 stadium. I think it would reduce the number of season ticket holders and ruin any chance of Wollongong getting a team outright in the future (which they deserve)

teams aren't feasible in wollongong mate

the steelers died, the soccer team they had in the nsl was crap and the basketball team is continuously bailed out every season

its like the goldcoast

everyone wants it, but it isnt a good idea

the issue with remondis is the standing room

we would have to become a seated only venue, or close the hills off

There are hills at Newcastle behind the sticks, aren't there? Haven't been there for a while.

thats the big one right there AB

game days, you get 12k at a soccer game on average, and then away games

not everyone will travel to perth but the staunch shire based supporters might head down to the club for cheap beers

there is a pub in penrith that does $4 beers until the first goal is scored on wanderers game day

Do you think making Sharkies the spiritual/drinking home of this franchise would be a challenge?

It might be enough of a case there for the Sharks to take a 10-20% share if possible.

Also, further to the sponsorship possibility - the exposure to Asia through AFC qualification every few years could make the stadium sponsorship worth *significantly* more.

I don't see the need for us to take that risk. As you say, we would reap the benefits through increased revenue through the club and ground sponsorship. How many A League clubs make a profit? Serious question as I don't know the answer.

Lol, the greatest club in the league Sydney make a loss every year.

However if you look at English football particularly lower leagues you see many small clubs with varying ownership models that continue to maintain stability. Then there's teams like Rovers.

The ownership share might insulate us from the risk of the team moving grounds or localities. Plus pave the way for the sort of partnership/cost sharing that we were talking about above.

I'm not sold on it. But it would have to be considered IMO.

in a short answer, no. if the games are being played out of our stadium then it would make the most sense that sharks were the ones that jumped on board for the turnover. how many people do you reckon go in the club doors on game day? 3,4,5 thousand?

a carlton draught is $5.50. 5.5 x 3000 is $16500, 20% is $3300. not a bad takings, and thats without food and spirits put in. then there is poker machine revenue, the tab ect ect. would also help if we got merchandise in our shop as well.

i have had a few thoughts on this, and the first thing on my agenda if we are to land an aleague team would be to upgrade and change the naming rights of the sponsor, i dont think remondis will cut it for both

i think any kind of in ground sponsorship might bring a challenge, as the aleague season finishes during nrl season, so it might be a case of upgrading to LED light signage so it can be changed

an example, but some of our panel signage this year was oporto, it would be a pain to have to have oporto on the signs, then change them a day later to something else for an aleague game

could always ask oporto to upgrade but i think the LED signage would be the go

Yep I didn't mean a 10-20% stake in the match day ops/sales, just in the franchise itself and whether that would lock in entertainment revenue to Sharkies.

Otherwise I agree. Stadium upgrades need to be planned quicksmart. There's money going round and the first step to getting any is having a viable plan to present.

ah that makes sense, i would want us to take all food and beverage

i would like a stake in the operation, i think it would be beneficial for it all to be run out of sharks, especially with the big upgrade that is going to happen

it wouldnt surprise me at all if Lyall was the C.E.O of both
