Boy we are lacking a decent seven smith has the goods and cannot find it ( he should be gone)
Porter should be gone as well.
We cannot or should not keep paying any player that does not have the potential to play nrl.
Is it time to give Towsend ago?? I am really not to sure but it worked for Pearce and they stuck with him.
Graham to me is strugling to organise on a consistant basis.
Kelly is still green albeit injured.
Do we need to change the whole team dynamics and put wade at lock??
To early for him maybe?
Toups needs a downgrade and while i love pom gee some times he just brings the wrong game.
To me if we could get a seven that delivers every week the big big money may not have to be spent on props ,and players like gordon/stapo/ect will do a better job with the right mouth running the show.
Hooker should be right if we have got degois /Morris.
Flano looked really nervous befor the game and i would hate to be in the room after the game and they deserve it.

A penalty goal after the fulltime siren has denied Cronulla a memorable victory as the young Sharks were forced to settle for a 36-36 draw against Parramatta in an entertaining Toyota Cup clash at Parramatta Stadium on Monday night.

The Sharks looked like they would steal an unlikely win when half-back Chad Townsend scored a superb individual try with just eight minutes left to give his side a 36-34 lead.

But Eels half Cameron Breust denied the visitors victory when he potted a penalty goal right on fulltime from 10 metres in from the sideline.

While the Sharks will be disappointed to have lost their lead at the death, it was a remarkable effort to get as close as they did in a contest where they were always playing catch-up.

James Shepherd's men trailed 28-18 at the break and were still behind by 10 points with just 26 minutes left before launching their comeback.

Tries to winger Daniel Moroko and Townsend saw the Sharks turn that deficit into a narrow lead before Breust's intervention at the death.

The Sharks suffered the worst possible start conceding a try in just the second minute to Eels fullback Marmin Barba to trail 6-0.

But Shepherd's troops responded within three minutes when Tyrone Peachey exploited a whole in the Parramatta defensive wall to sneak through and score beside the posts.

Townsend's simple conversion levelled it up at 6-6.

Both sides were guilty of not valuing possession in the opening stages and it would come back to haunt the visitors again on just seven minutes.

It looked as though it would be the Sharks that took the lead as they attacked the Eels but a dropped ball was scooped on by the impressive Barba who raced 80 metres to score.

Barba, the younger brother of Bulldogs star Ben Barba, was forced off with injury soon after but it didn't affect the home side who pulled out to a healthy 22-6 lead as Daniel Tupou (15th) and Chris Ulugia (20th) crossed in quick succession.

The Sharks finally managed to mount some sustained pressure on the back of possession and some good field position and it paid off as they hit back with two quick tries of their own.

First five-eighth Penani Manumalealii capitalised on some good ball movement to shrug off a couple of defenders to score on 25 minutes.

Townsend then played a major role in the visitor's next four-pointer seven minutes before the break, kicking a 40/20 to give his side the possession in good field position.

And on the very next set the Sharks were in as Eels winger Jacob Gagan made a meal of Townsend's grubber into the in-goal area, with Hayden Peacock falling on the loose ball to score to make it 22-18.

But the Sharks undid all their good work less than a minute before the break when Dean Blackman was allowed to burrow over from close range to give the Eels a 10-point lead at half-time.

Cronulla started the second stanza with much more purpose and were rewarded with the vital first try 10 minutes in.

Interchange forward Fraser Alcock found a couple of tired defenders as he powered onto a short ball from Manumalealii to dive over next to the posts.

Townsend again made no mistake and the game was there for the taking at 28-24.

The see-sawing nature of the contest continued as first the Eels extended the lead through Pat O'Hanlon (54th) before Sharks winger Moroko (61st) hit back to make it 34-30.

Townsend's piece of individual brilliance looked like handing the Sharks victory before Breust's late goal tied it up.

The point sees the Sharks move up to fifth place on the Toyota Cup ladder ahead of next week's clash with the league leaders Melbourne Storm.

There is your answer. I know it is NYC but Townsend has taken his game to the next level this year. He would control the game far better than Smith or Porter allowing Kelly free reign and Graham to move into the forwards. I'm the opposite of some of you blokes. I say play our rookies. The season is over so why not give them first grade experience. They have more talent than some of the blokes stinking up the team at the moment.

You forgot to highlight the part in blue. Let's hope he has a shot next week

I wouldn't mind seeing Townsend getting a run, but I dont think we should be getting too excited by the fact he helped an under 20s side to a draw. The standard of both lower grades is so far below NRL it's not funny.

Scott porter was NSW cup player of the year and beau Henry the same in under 20s in 09, neither have done anything at nil level, yet are superstars in the lower grades. (Henry does have potential though)

i wonder how albert would go in the centers, as we need a good kicking half/58.
and how about we stop pulling apart our under 20s team leave them all together this season and let them have a good shot at the semies. we should be pulling players from our nsw cup team.

He has actually played centre when he was younger, not sure what to do w/ the halves, its only early but I was one who didnt get excited when we signed Wade.
I didnt get what all the hype was about, I hope he proves me wrong & he ends up developing into a top notch half but at present I dont see it happening.

Tough games ahead to blood a kid in...... Storm then Broncos. However if Chad is good enough, he's old enough and he's ready enough!!!

(Plus lots more that I'll spare you going through again)

Sounds like the kind of stuff written about Porter in the lower grades not so long ago...

Just wondered whether any of you have actually seen Chad Townsend play in the Under 20s. He has some good qualities no doubt but he is still not at first grade level. I have watched him over the past 3 seasons and there are still things he does which let the side down.

In the Roosters game with us leading, he threw a wild intercept pass and kicked down the throat of their back three. I know that Porter doesn't have much of a running game but Townsend doesn't either. Sometimes he tries but he doesn't have the elusiveness of other number 7s.

I would not be jumping up and down if he was given a go but I still think he's a bit short of it.

It's amazing how quickly turn on porter, he had a good defensive game with hayne continuosly running down his edge, he kicked pretty well and long as we were always in trouble, he was playing behind a badly beaten forward pack that wasn't making metres.

Thats bull**** mate. He has plenty of opportunity to show us what he's got and come up empty. Kicking the ball down the throat of the opposition and making tackles is not what I look for in a halfback. He has no creativity whatsoever.

I agree there would be some people turning on Porter but lets not kid ourselves, he is a steady player, has a decent kicking game & does get a team around the field ok.

I agree also our forward pack was dominated last night so it would be harsh of people to be overly critical of our halves on last nights game.

BUT, even Porters biggest supporters would have to admit when he does play behind a dominant pack & the Sharks have had a dominant pack for alot of his games he has played in he doesn't tear other teams apart like a quality half would or should.

As I previously said, he is steady but thats it.

Porter ain't the answer, that's pretty obvious. He can fill in when needed & be a back-up for the #1 half, which obviously should be Kelly. We should have a ****load of cash left over with the "deserters" going, so rather than a #7, i think we need to buy a decent #6 (if there is one ), graham to lock, gal to 2nd row, piss toups off and we're off & running!

townsend can do the same job as porter and has potential but we don't know if it is the right timing for him to make a debut. After the origin period when all players are back on board every week would probs be a good time to blood chad.
