Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has named a host of established NRL players in a 27-man squad for Friday night's Pre-Season Challenge match against the Warriors at Sharks Stadium.

The likes of Will Kennedy, Sione Katoa, Kayal Iro, Daniel Atkinson, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Tom Hazelton, Sifa Talakai and Oregon Kaufusi are set to feature in the opening trial of the year alongside several talented youngsters.

Halfback Niwhai Puru will be joined by his twin Hohepa, with the forward set to make his club debut off the interchange after moving from the Raiders.

Standouts from last year's NSW Cup-winning Newtown Jets team including Chris Vea'ila, Brad Fearnley, Blake Hosking and Kyle Pickering will get a chance to impress after being listed on an extended bench along with ex-Bulldogs back Eli Clark.

2024 Jersey Flegg stars such as Taj Ford, Riley Pollard, Michael Gabrael, Kristian Dixon, Lachlan Crouch, Felix Faatili and Sam McCulloch are also named.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm. CLICK HERE to secure tickets.

Full Season Sharks Members will receive free General Admission access by scanning their physical or digital card at the gates. Part Season and Flexi Members can also redeem a ticket without impacting their number of match entry entitlements.

The Witzer Pre-Season Challenge will again feature all 17 NRL teams in two matches apiece, with the overall winner to take home $100,000.

A win is worth 12 points, a draw six points and a loss zero points. A total of three bonus points are also available per match, with one awarded for scoring five-plus tries, making five-plus line breaks or producing 10-plus offloads.

Friday night's game will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo.

Interesting that Lachlan Crouch is the next in line in the Prop department. I guess it makes sense.

Also Eli Clark official.

Unfortunately have to assume Ison unfit otherwise I'd have liked to see him given time.
Dykes another who must be unfit but we suspected that. Assuming Kennedy doesn't play out 80 wonder who will go to FB - Hiroti the obvious but boring choice

Given we need a new sub for McInnes (with Jack gone) I wonder if this tells us anything by naming Oregon there.

Crouch named 17 last year and 16 this year, while we won't call the number change a clear promotion just yet he is clearly in Fitz's broader considerations (SF please don't steal my points haha)

Development player Coutts also missing (him, Bradbury and Ison are our 3 named dev players as far as I am aware)

Neither Chaz Jarvis or Taj Brailey (both Flegg last year) named as a second hooker. Wonder if Flegg halves Ford or Pollard will get time there. New Puru (Nuru?*) capable of jumping in but as a new player I'd rather give him good minutes at 13. Atkinson (or Niwhai Puru) maybe could jump in to show 'utility value' in auditions for 14 & 18 jersey selections

*or is Niwhai Nuru and Hohepa is Huru?

Haha that’s a much more useful analysis than mine!

I'm pleased to see BHU in there, in 2022-23 he was really strong for us & thought underrated. Obviously he's still in Fitzzys plans for us despite missing a full season 2024.

Jarvis and Brailey gave up on footy

I knew Brailey had quit and that Jarvis had left club, wasn't certain he'd quit though.

The chat about Taj being the best brother was also a bit a myth tbf

Oh he definitely struggled
Started with bad prep and never came together for him except maybe back end of the jets season
I'm hoping big things from BHU this year.

hoping coutts is a late call up in jersey #28 like taukamo was last year. im assuming bradburys still in rehab too

we signed a gun hooker in aaron keppie from wests sgball this year. im happy with hohepa playing fill in hooker at 3rd pick but we probably want a specialist coming thru in the next year or two
