Did you get your wish?Hess playing 13?
Maybe not. It might be the diving an a loose ball and tapping the ball in to touch which they don't count... because on countback my numbers don't line up with theirs perfectly so he could have had 1-2 more touches depending on what gets counted. They count scrum feeds as a touch? I can't refute that but it doesn't seem like it should be the case. Ball is effectively not live until they release it.
I feel our general position play / attack is good enough to hold our own.So with this great victory yesterday and only one blemish on our record for 2024, are we ready to take it to the big boys yet?
We all know that while we are happy with the way we are playing at the moment, the Panthers, the Storm and the Broncos are different beasts to what we have met so far.
So do we need to do anything differently to overcome them? Or is our present style going to be enough to stifle them. We know we don't have the X factor players these teams have so how do we make up for this?
Don't think we do with the Panthers mate, we play them on May 25th, SOO I is on June 5 so the Penrith players that may be selected can play against us. It would be the game against the Dragons on June 1 where they will need to stand down players.Looking more closely, we likely get Penrith and Broncos in origin affected games.
Makes the Storm and Roosters games so important. Must win 1/2 and not get blown out in the other IMO. Will be so important for our later season confidence.
My apologies, you're right. That's actually a good thing. I'd rather have them full strength given our draw. Parra is the origin affected game then.Don't think we do with the Panthers mate, we play them on May 25th, SOO I is on June 5 so the Penrith players that may be selected can play against us. Against the Broncos it would only be if players can't back up from Game 1.
That was such a devilish but smart play“NRL head of football Graham Annesley has confirmed Panthers halfback Brad Schneider should have been sent to the sin bin for a deliberate ankle tap on Justin Olam which denied a try.”
Thanks captain Einstein! Seriously do we need Graham coming out every Monday stating the obvious, such a pointless exercise
Why don't they just put Annesley in the bunker? He has a 100% record in the tough calls“NRL head of football Graham Annesley has confirmed Panthers halfback Brad Schneider should have been sent to the sin bin for a deliberate ankle tap on Justin Olam which denied a try.”

I think every team has shown a case of the wobbles at some point this season. It's more which version will you get on the night (of the Sharks and the opposition)I don't think we've really come up against a side that is consistently good yet, so we haven't had to perform under that pressure. Warriors game would have been the closest. Souths, Cows and Raiders all had periods where they were poor/clocked off. We won't get that against the big sides.
High completions will give us a chance, but if we give up soft penalties and six agains we'll he punished.
Storm, Panthers, Roosters, Parra, Broncos in a 5 week block. I'd expect us to win against the eels, but we need to knock off one of the others at full strength.

Couple of interesting things in the most recent EyeTest article. It is focused on different teams, but there are a couple of Sharks notes.Third best defence with 100 points conceded. Penrith (92) and Storm (98) only marginally better.
It there a metric called "Expect the Unexpected"?Couple of interesting things in the most recent EyeTest article. It is focused on different teams, but there are a couple of Sharks notes.
EyeTest runs a metric called Expected Points. In short, this is "what is the league average for points scored when a team has this type of possession and field position".
The Sharks in 2024:
The reasons for these things are open to interpretation/speculation, but in general:
- Have scored 40% more points than expected (4th in the NRL) (Broncos first at 57%)
- Have conceded 25% less points than expected (1st) (Bulldogs second at 13%)
While it may not be in the same format, this data is definitely something that is covered by analytics and that coaches pay attention to. It was mentioned by Bennett after playing the Broncos that they score a lot of tries in breakdown situations.
- Scoring more points than expected would usually be an indicator of either a very high strike rate in the attacking end and/or scoring a lot of long range tries or from kicks and broken play (e.g. intercepts).
- Conceding less points than expected would usually be an indicator of good goal line defence and/or conceding very few tries from kicks, long range and broken play
I'd personally like to know which players have their eyes up for the most minutes while playing footyIt there a metric called "Expect the Unexpected"?
I would like to know beforehand if we are going to get blind sided like the game against the Tigers so I can do something else on the night!
The closest I can get to on this one is knowing which refs have their eyes painted on the most.I'd personally like to know which players have their eyes up for the most minutes while playing footy
