It's not usually minute 45 of him playing people say Toby looks off though, usually it's back end of his first stint.
Have you got data on anything like missed tackles in last 5 minutes of first stint, or missed tackles in first stint after 24 minutes?

That's exactly what I did.

I went through when in his stints he made errors, and also whether or not he was more likely to make an error, miss tackles or give up a penalty after being on for longer.

I did it after round 24 though (so we are missing the last three games). Give me 10 and I'll add them in and re-post it to the Toby thread.

Have updated the errors and penalties data in the Toby thread @bort.

Will find and re-post the missed tackles one.

I’d agree that Toby was a little below his best at times because of the injury - but what I said above was true in spite of it. Even playing with 9 toes and hardly training he was still the best 105kg+ player to leave out there longer than planned if/when circumstances made it necessary.

E.g. Toby takes more runs after being on for 45 than Royce or Tom do after being on for 20 - but doesn’t miss any more tackles or make any more errors than he normally would.

People thinking otherwise is recency bias based on the one game (the finals game) which was the exception.
Also seemed to get on the burgers during his injury lay off. I forgot to mention that.

At times he was gasping for air so hard that you could almost see the other players' hair move a little.

Yep, agree that he does well playing longer minutes generally. Also one of our more determined and committed players on the field I reckon.

I guess he can gasp as much as he wants if he isn't missing more tackles (although... he was missing more tackles)
And that's as long as the tackles he is making are just as effective, not allowing quicker PTBs or more assistance from teammates

Yep. This is the thing. We don't have a way of measuring this. Safe to say though that when any middle makes a lazy error or starts to become a liability in the ruck Fitz is quick to hook him.

A lot of it is game situation too imo. E.g. say they think Toby is looking gassed at the 22min mark, but the Sharks score. Fitz says "tell Toby he's off after the kick-off set" because he'll get a 3min rest while they take the conversion etc,

... then someone drops the kickoff, Toby has to make 4 tackles in a row, and gives up a penalty for a flop.

Result = Fans say Fitz is an idiot.

Just look at what Shamar Joseph can do with 9 toes!

Guru pod on the sharks best 17 for anyone interested. I'm sure it's available on whatever other platforms you use too.

Probably the “most likely” round 1 lineup barring any injuries between now than then.
I’ve seen some “unlikely“ variations being mentioned previously

Cronulla Sharks

With 2022 Dally M Medal winner Nicho Hynes, exciting winger Ronaldo Mulitalo, attacking fullback Will Kennedy and powerful forwards including Braden Hamlin-Uele and Briton Nikora providing plenty of strike, the Sharks have the ingredients to improve. Kennedy's return at fullback after missing the final six games of 2023 with a hamstring injury is a massive boost while Sione Katoa and Mulitalo will look to build on their impressive tryscoring strike rates that have yielded 65 four-pointers between them across the past two seasons.

1. Will Kennedy
2. Sione Katoa
3. Jesse Ramien
4. Siosifa Talakai
5. Ronaldo Mulitalo
6. Braydon Trindall
7. Nicho Hynes
8. Toby Rudolph
9. Blayke Brailey
10. Braden Hamlin-Uele
11. Briton Nikora
12. Teig Wilton
13. Dale Finucane
14. Cameron McInnes
15. Oregon Kaufusi
16. Royce Hunt
17. Jack Williams

Yep that line up would be my guess*
I still think Kaufusi is surplus to requirement with Cam Dale Jack & Toby all there capable of shouldering workload and a 4 forward bench, so I’d run big Tommy.

Many fans still think Iro should start but I’m not aware of anything which would suggest he’s ahead of Talakai

*we believe BHU not fit for round 1 so based on that this can’t be the round 1 lineup, more a best 17

It's funny how there have been a zillion predicted lineups which have him in. Either we know more than all NRL media boffins and gurus do, or BHU is good to go.

Its baffling to me how all these “predicted lineups” are leaving Hazelton out. Did none of these people watch us last year?

We are basing it off him supposedly telling one of us he won't be fit, which perhaps they don't have access too, or perhaps is a lie (which obviously we have chosen to believe and there is some other evidence for in terms of his injury recovery info).
Don't think club has put out anything that specifically suggests he is in doubt for start of season?

Fitz has been shown to be a a pretty loyal guy so far to his side, and he went out of his way to recruit Oregon.
Oregon the much more experienced player too. It's probably the safe call to assume he stays in the side and the newer guy has to wait for an opportunity.

If BHU is out then Hazelton the obvious next man in, but in that scenario Oregon could well be the starter.
In saying that, Round 1 vs AFB I'd actually probably go Hunt and let him challenge himself against the big dog coming into the side next year.

I guess most would just agree that 1-15 is pretty set unless Iro blows the doors off.

Then for predictions just add 2 of Kaufusi, Hunt, Hazelton. With a healthy BHU I think there is a chance any of those three could drop off. Could argue pros/cons for any of them.

Agree
I've seen Williams left out but I'd be pretty surprised if that was right

Yeah, her finished the year really strongly. With a decent run of health he looks ready to step up this year
