Funny.

The email also reminded the NRL’s radio partners it was in their mutual interest to provide positive coverage and not to “emphasise or focus unnecessarily on negative aspects of play, including on-field or off-field incidents”.

Yep. Blame the gun, not the person holding it.

I’m always amazed at how some people’s egos totally blind them from what millions of others can see.

If Andrew Abdo thinks that not sanctioning Mitchell is the right course of action, then he’s living in a fantasy world. Again it’s so obvious he’s not being sanctioned because of the NRLs fear of a racial backlash from Mitchell.

Obvious to everyone and it is just mind boggling that Abdo is sweeping it under the carpet.
Genuine question, what sanction would you suggest?

I think an official warning like what Toby got would suffice.

And / or 5k fine
Haha ridiculous that Toby got a warning and had to attend counselling.

This was Abdo on Rudolf

"I was very disappointed with Toby's comments, they were inappropriate and should not have been said," Abdo told AAP.

"We are going to issue Toby with a formal warning and I know the club are going to counsel him so there is not a repeat.”

This was Abdo on Mitchell

“We all make mistakes, and we have to take it in the context of from time to time there will be things said that players regret. I’ve heard Latrell acknowledge the fact that he does regret that, and I will have a chat with him in due course.”

Nicho is indigenous, he can already be Trell’s role model of a young indigenous man positively impacting people without causing (much) drama

I know mate, that's why I suggested him. Hard to think of a better role model and example in the game right now, especially when you consider the family stuff going on with him but he's kept his nose clean and maintained his integrity.

Funny.

Coaches get fines for bagging the game but they are just being honest and are frustrated and jobs are on the line.

Media do it for clicks cause they have adds to sell

Would be great to see the media cop fines too haha but issues still need to freely be brought up by someone outside the NRL so prob a bad idea (even if it means we still get bottom of the barrel trash articles and gossip) and I think some journos genuinely do love the game (outside of deriving an income from it) and want to see it be as good as it can be or at least not go backwards too much.

One thing for certain, the media don't like being told what they can and can't report on and where and when.

I'd forgotten about the Toby one. I think the reaction was at the time of the insinuation about comparing women to things. We obviously know Toby didn't intend it that way, so it was probably overblown. Also worth noting he didn't receive a breach notice.

I could cop a similar response to Toby. Don't think he needs a fine.
Fine or suspension, doesn’t worry me which one. Fine would need to be substantial, perhaps controversial but $50K might make him realise he can’t do things like this.
I know I put you on the spot, but that's a crazy fine IMO. Didn't Val get fined half that for the coke incident? At the end of the day, he was just swearing. I don't really get the fuss.

I think the NRL just needed to come out and say it was disappointing/remind him/all players of expectations. Then give him a kick up the ass behind closed doors.

I’d be fine with no action, but I think they should give Toby his money back. They made an assumption that he was offending a particular group (women) when in fact he was being more inclusive than they wanted him to be.

Mate, I don’t know. I just want him to realise what he did was wrong and he should show some remorse. To me, I would hope he’d think twice about doing it again if that was the fine.

He was just swearing? Yep, I’m no prude and can swear with the best of them but there’s a time and place. Do you honestly believe parents of young kids who heard that would happily brush it aside? Not sure how you can say you don’t get the fuss.

No I get that, but I just think it rates so low of a mention in the grand scheme of rugby league player issues.

Yes parents won't love it, sure. But there's a laundry list of issues for nrl players that parents of young kids don't love including stuff that happens on the field.

I genuinely think if the NRL told him to keep it in check next time, and he recognised it wasn't a great look then we move on. Who knows if this occurred privately?

Haha yeah 50k a bit over the top.

I'd be happy with a breach notice and possibly a small token fine, say 5k.

Remember he also breached two weeks ago by commenting on a judiciary matter without punishment.

All good mate, totally understand. If a private meeting has taken place and he did recognise what he did wasn't great, then no worries. I do think though he has to man up and say this publicly if he wants to be looked at in high regards.

Yeah, it probably was. Just want him to realise he's an idiot and not to do it again.

Abdo should wash Trells potty mouth out with soap live on the Matty John’s Show

Someone would complain that the soap used was tested on some animal that deserved more in life that as a lab rat.
