He's a year younger than Trindall who only won our starting spot back end of last season.

Rabbitohs
2019 3rd
2020 6th
2021 3rd (runner up)
ARey leaves
2022 7th
2023 9th

Broncos
2019 8th
2020 16th
2021 14th
ARey arrives
2022 9th
2023 2nd (runner up)

See a trend? Rabbitohs needed to find the money to keep him, Ilias wasn't ready. Ilias may have only ever been intended as the bridge to Hawkins but seeing as he still hasn't won the spot outright it is a fairly big bridge. Hawkins gets a chance to win it outright now.
Kind of unfair to Ilias he is out before their star recruit plays a game, Hawkins gets to come in with him.
Two games chance, at least

Unless you were convinced they couldn't work together, for sure
We've seen Hastings play competently in 13 at Tigers so not sure why he couldn't play 6 if AOB felt Cogger needed to play 7.

Guess there's an arguement they are too similar but then you can say what the halves pairing offers wouldn't change from swapping one for the other either.
As you say Hastings has already proven he can play a role as needed.

Chad isn't earning a new contract on 1 good game but if he performs to that level over a season it would be hard not to throw him a bone of some sort even if he eventually just becomes a Robbo kinda signing. I feel he has a few good years left in him before being that but maybe it isn't in the NRL.

I seriously think the West Tigers should throw Chad a cheapie, they could use him before he gets beyond it. The Tigers halves situation is diabolical.

As for Latrell, you kinda get a club or coach or whatever sweeping a players misgivings under the rug if they are the best player in the game like Andrew Johns was and not having him in your team and happy means you ain't winning games.

But Latrell has become a mediocre player that lacks the work ethic and involvement levels to consistently make a difference for a team.
I wonder if he has something on someone...

His Indigenous heritage works against him in some ways, it presents him as a role model but alot of the time that probably doesn't suit him and he didn't necessarily ask for it but that comes with being a pro athlete with a specific cultural background. If he's just another white fella he prob doesn't get as much attention or controversy around him.

I think G.I is someone who really embraced the cultural/leadership type role even if he also had his dramas.

No one expects Latrell to be perfect or a saint in private but when it comes to public/media you gotta tone it down a bit and sanitise it if can be helped - For young fans, sponsors ect.

Maybe he's over it and just doesn't give a toss anymore. Everyone burns out time to time.

I think Latrell is more than good enough to still be in the NRL without having something on someone

G.I also had the benefit of spending most of his early years in Melbourne where he wasn't such a constant target of the media, even when he was in NSW or QLD he was probably less likely to have to hear about it on a day-today basis.
Bellamy not the type to let you get a big head or let egos develop either.

Not using that as a defence for Latrell's conduct though. I thought what Gus had to say last night on 100% Footy was pretty spot on in regards to him demanding but not giving respect. People around him need to take some accountability for creating the monster as well.

Disagree with this bit, think he absolutely wants to be a role model.

GI is also shy and quiet natured.

I met him in the lineup for a Storm v Sharks game at AAMI, must have been 6 or 7 years ago.

He was there to get or give a presentation.

He just came along pushing a pram and lined up with the rest of us.

People were getting their photo taken with him etc and he came across as a shy, humble man.

He was prepared to line up and pay for a ticket like everyone else.

The stadium people must have been tipped off because suddenly they came out and fetched him.

It's a shame ******** gossip columnists don't write about this stuff more often. I think this is outstanding from both men.

Last Tuesday, Mitchell and teammate Cody Walker met NSW Police for several hours, discussing what role he could play in helping quell youth violence in Dubbo and Moree.

“They’ve been helping us with work with Indigenous youth all throughout NSW,” NSW Police assistant commissioner Gavin Wood said. “They do it without any fanfare. They do it because they genuinely care. Can’t fault them.”

Trivia story. One of my friends' Company was a lower tier Storm Sponsor in the year he started ( 17yo maybe 18yo?)". He got GI as the sponsored player ( maybe player 30, if they had a top 30 back then) . Like most 17/18 yo's was extremely shy, at the end of the year when presented his Sponsors award ( no it wasn't that boat ;)) on stage. Shook hands, but too quiet shy/ to look at my friend presenting. My fav non sharks player.

They would if it got as many clicks as bad news does.
Most wouldn't have a negative agenda (maybe they develop one over time) but simply chase the stories that get the clicks.

That one good piece of info doesn't generate player and coach and teammate questions about it, doesn't generate panel discussion so they can write articles the next day quoting themselves, to discuss at the next panel, to write about the next day...

And if Trell or Walker responds to this story it'd probably be boring. If they clap back at negative reports that is more good clicks to harvest.

First thing that story made me think was is Cody quelling violence by going around breaking up fights trying to fly kick people because that video and story have stuck with me more than this will.

All that aside, good on them

Sure, perhaps but there are expectations and responsibilities that come with that and he needs to live up to them whether he agrees with it or not

I wonder if someone classy and level headed like Nicho can help him out with this sorta public speaking/persona kinda stuff

I like that Dunno/Moree story

Nicho is indigenous, he can already be Trell’s role model of a young indigenous man positively impacting people without causing (much) drama

Because souths have one of the biggest fan bases in the league and it generates clicks?

Funny.

The email also reminded the NRL’s radio partners it was in their mutual interest to provide positive coverage and not to “emphasise or focus unnecessarily on negative aspects of play, including on-field or off-field incidents”.

I’m always amazed at how some people’s egos totally blind them from what millions of others can see.

If Andrew Abdo thinks that not sanctioning Mitchell is the right course of action, then he’s living in a fantasy world. Again it’s so obvious he’s not being sanctioned because of the NRLs fear of a racial backlash from Mitchell.

Obvious to everyone and it is just mind boggling that Abdo is sweeping it under the carpet.
