Yeah I'd take that with a grain of salt. NRL have said before that if we finished top 4 we would could, and then they've also said we couldn't.

They change eligibility on the fly to suit their agenda. And it's not just us, they have done it to other clubs too.

They've even offered to play a semi at Penrith despite the fact Panthers haven't been near the top for in ages

Oh for sure. I mean Gal also said he was told we need 13k crowd to break even.. Dino told us it was 16.5k. The fact Gal has put out a fluff piece at all is a weird mix of alarming yet reluctant comfort.

But all that aside if Sharks were able to secure an agreement that our proposed renos would see Shark Park hosting home semis I think that'd go a long way to getting fans to suck it up a bit more.

Traditionally it has always been 12000-12500 break even crowd, even when D.Irvine was President. Dino saying 16500 went against the what was generally accepted before hand. Don't know if he just got the figure wrong or cost have gone through the roof?

The term 'break even' is up to interpretation.

For example it may include just paying for the game day costs, or it may include all of the stadium and event costs including full time staff over a year, or it may include depreciation etc.

It's somewhat meaningless without clarification.

Sharks fans have been reassured Netstrata Jubilee Stadium will not look "anything like a Dragons stadium when Cronulla play there next year.

After consultation with Sharks members, the Cronulla board has chosen Netstrata Jubilee Stadium for 11 of its home games next season.

Henson Park was looked at, as was Darwin, Wollongong, Bankwest Stadium, and even overseas prior to the decision being made to play all but one home fixture at the home ground of St George Illawarra.

The 12th home game will be at Sunshine Coast Stadium in Queensland, where the Rabbitohs hosted the Warriors in round five this year.

"It will be a blockbuster type of game but we don't know who against yet as the NRL draw hasn't been done,'" said Sharks CEO Richard Munro.

"But it's a great opportunity as we have a big fan base in that part of Queensland so it made sense to take a game there."

The initial thought was a combination of venues for the Sharks home games, brought on by the reconstruction of the current Sharks Leagues Club adjacent to PointsBet Stadium.

A revamped club will be the centrepiece of a new commercial-retail precinct bringing further revenue to Cronulla's coffers.

"I thought we might land on something like a combination of WIN Stadium [Wollongong], Netstrata Jubilee Stadium [Kogarah] and something up at the Sunshine Coast," he said.

"As it turned out the members were keen to have games as close to PointsBet Stadium as possible.

"And I think for the first year, it was important to have a bit of stability for the playing group at one place, on one playing ground."

It's a two-year construction period at the current Woolooware site, so Munro says in 2021 the club may again consult members about whether to take more home games - with Bankwest firmly in the Sharks' sights.

It is the home venue for Parramatta but Wests Tigers, Bulldogs, Western Sydney Wanderers (A-League) and the Waratahs (Super Rugby) all play home games there.

Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, with a 20,500 capacity, is not owned by the Dragons. They rent it from Georges River Council.

But it is deep in Dragons heartland. Plans are already underway by the Sharks marketing and commercial teams to "Cronulla-ify" the stadium.

"It's a dry stadium hire," Munro said, meaning the Sharks sponsors' signage can be applied.

"A lot of it will be technology but we'll dress it up as well. The idea is fans will be able to get from Cronulla [train] station up to Jubilee as a group and we'll be dressing up the stadium in black, white and blue.

"It won't look anything like a Dragons stadium. The important thing is some members were worried we were giving money [hire costs] to the Dragons but it's not. It goes to the council."

As for the Sharks home game against the Dragons?

"It will be probably be at Kogarah I would suspect unless we go to the Sunshine Coast – that's up to the NRL," Munro said.

"But we usually pay them twice in a season so we're looking forward to seeing them in the visitors' sheds at Kogarah."

The Sharks have some innovative ideas for their new Leagues club.

One is a proposed 1800-square metre deck off the new club.

"As part of that there will be a pool – no kids, unfortunately – but it will overlook the ground and you can book it out exclusively. It will be something pretty special," Munro said.

Happy with this allocation... best possible outcome for fans and players. And will book the Sunshine Coast the day the draw comes out!

Sharks announce home grounds for 2020

The Cronulla Sutherland Sharks announced today that the club will use Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah as its home ground next year while PointsBet Stadium is closed during renovations to the adjoining Leagues Club.

CEO Richard Munro said the club had negotiated with Georges River Council to play 11 home games at Kogarah in 2020.

The Sharks will play their other home game on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as part of a drive to increase the club’s supporter base.

Mr Munro said the Sharks had completed an exhaustive consultation process with members, sponsors, hospitality partners and fans to determine where they wanted to watch the Sharks play over the next two seasons while the redevelopment is undertaken.

“While there were many ideas put forward, Netstrata Jubilee Stadium emerged as the clear preference of our stakeholders,” Mr Munro said.

“Jubilee Stadium is only about 10 kms up the road from PointsBet Stadium and it is accessible by both road and rail.

“So it is a convenient option for all Sharks supporters and commercial partners.

“We will play more games at Kogarah than any other sporting team next year and we intend making it our own fortress.

“The players are supportive of the move and now we are focussed on delivering a great season for our fans.”

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that Council was pleased to be able to offer more elite level games at Netstrata Jubilee Oval and to provide a temporary home to the Sharks.

“We look forward to hosting both the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks and their dedicated fans,” said Mayor Greene.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson Council also expressed his excitement surrounding the announcement of the Sharks game in their region next year.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that the Cronulla Sharks have put their faith in the Sunshine Coast to stage one of their NRL premiership home games here in 2020 and 2021,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“We’d love to see plenty of Sharks fans head to the Sunshine Coast next year for what will be another terrific event.”

Mr Munro said the Sharks would now put together a range of members packages to encourage fans to follow the club to their temporary home grounds next year.

These will include incentives to ensure members can return to their current seats at PointsBet Stadium when the Sharks return in 2021.

Mr Munro said an information session for club members will be held next month to provide more details and give fans a chance to ask any questions about the move.

“We apologise for the inconvenience to our loyal fans for the next two years but these works will set up the Sharks for long term success both on and off the field,” he said.
