TOP SQUAD CONTRACT FARCE
The NRL’s pathway program is flawed.

Under the NRL’s new rules, Nick Cotric, the hot favourite for Dally M rookie of the year, would never have made his first grade debut this season.

The likes of Anthony Milford or Nathan Cleary wouldn’t have popped on the scene either.

In 2018 NRL clubs have a squad of 30 players to pick from with six development players who are ineligible to play first grade.

The second tier as we know it is non-existent which means a crucial pathway to the top grade has been blocked.

As it stands, Cronulla young gun Kyle Flanagan will be unable to play first grade in 2018.

Flanagan isn’t in the club’s top 30 which means he would need an exception to play first grade.

Under the rules, the only way he can play NRL next year is if James Maloney or Chad Townsend suffers a serious injury.

It’s understood the RLPA aren’t happy with the new system which blocks the pathway of players.

It's deeply distressing that Blake Ferguson is running out of seasons to win a premiership while virtually unheard of for Mitchell Pearce to go missing in a big game

These nice guys of league deserved better

The sharks were determined but just got robbed by the JT try no way he got the ball over the line.

Bull****. And no way winterstein didnt have his forearm on the ball as it rolled over the try line.

Our season was not defined by 1 try that some disagree on. With better attitude we finish 4th or 3rd or even 2nd.

Mate there were four guys who should have stopped him before he got to the line. As BWB said we did not have the right attitude and did not deserve to win. Referee decisions were not a factor.

Yes they were, we lost by 1 point. Of course they were a factor.

We could have won DESPITE the poor (read atrocious) refereeing decisions, but let ourselves down through poor attitude and discipline, as well as **** attacking options at end of regular and extra time.

Correct. But the referees were still a factor.

Perhaps, but champion teams dominate and/or overcome adversity. We did neither.

The champion is the one that wins the comp. Doesn't matter whether they deserved it or whether it was convincing, just need to be ahead on the scoreboard when the final whistle blows.

We were beaten in every statistic that mattered. Don't take anything away from the Cowboys. They are a great team that wanted it more.

There were plenty of factors. The ones in red are inexplicably of our own doing though and carry more weight than the whistle did. I stopped short of marking the 11-5 penalties but I'd say we deserved a few of them too.

I was referring to champion in the sense of a team who has an infinite willingness, determination and perfection in everything they do.

If your content to continue with limited strategy, just turning up and giving it a crack until the final whistle, we might have our 2nd premiership in another 50 years.

I love the club, and am glad we got the big one last year, but I'm fed up with mediocrity, and making excuses. I want us to have a "killer" instinct, contest every ball (and keep hold of the fricken' thing!) and play until the final whistle.

Ahh the old factor factor!

I understand that we live in a post-modern world which means that any person can draw any number of meanings from a simple piece of text and for all of them be correct and just as valid as each other. So it's okay.

And that's exactly why I'm so disappointed in the team's performance this year.
At least, we didn't do a Western Bulldogs...
