How is his wrestle? Where's his contact in D- is he locking up the ball? How quick is he up off the ground? How quick is his PTB? Is he tying in back behind the ruck or is he giving away cheap metres, LBs and quick PTBs? How's his line speed when he's fatigued?

He's a long way behind Vave in terms of numbers in their final years of NYC IMO. Vave was absolutely dominant in the NYC. Second best prop in his year behind Merrin. Taupau, Tasi, Sims and Clayton likewise. They were all averaging 150m+ and 20+ tackles a match. Just going off my recollection of Viiga's stats (so could easily be wrong) he'd be more like 80-100m/match and 15 tackles which wouldn't put him in anywhere near the same class of workrate.

He needs time IMO. At least one year of NSW Cup. A chance to take Ross' spot down the track though. What's the use of throwing him in there early anyway?

I haven't seen him be offloaded on to many times this year AB. His first contact is NRL standard and there is nothing wrong with his line speed. He looks to offload and plays through the advantage line almost every time. He isn't getting alot of game time so it's hard to get a guage on his fitness. As I said, he is still a bit raw but the talent is there if he is coached properly.

Yep, but they were all scouted by the Dog's. I didn't mean local juniors just players that have not been in any other NRL club systems.

What is your motivation for wanting that? I assume it's getting players when they're cheap and hopefully getting some value out of them, at least for a while, and possibly building an intangible loyalty in them so they stick around for less money and hence give ongoing value.

Anyway, if you looked at our senior squad there's a decent amount of players in that position. Some of them have arguably had more chance in the NRL than they probably deserve. Others have probably been unlucky, but are still so young it's hard to really suggest that they should be guaranteed 24 games of NRL a year.

And then some of the players that don't fit your description, surely you'd still be happy we have them regardless. For example Graham.

Players that have only played NRL for the Sharks or haven't played any NRL (yet to debut) excluding NYC.
Paul Gallen
Isaac Gordon
Ricky Leutele
Nathan Gardner
Stewart Mills
Nathan Stapleton
Chad Townsend
Tyrone Peachey
Matthew Wright
Jayson Bukuya
Tyson Frizzell
Sosaia Feki

Players that don't fit this description and were recruited by Flanagan
Colin Best, though he's a local junior and previous player
Wade Graham, still young though, can't complain surely?
Jeremy Smith, can you complain about him?
Sam Tagataese
Jeff Robson
Bryce Gibbs
Andrew Fifita. Very young with heaps of potential.
Isaac De Gois, previous player who had his break out with us. Can you complain about him?
Jon Green, local junior who is depth.
Mark Taufua
Ben Ross
John Williams
Todd Carney

Players that pre-date Flanagan

John Morris
Ben Pomeroy
Josh Cordoba
Anthony Tupou

---

Now be specific here, what are your specific complaints. You want Peachey playing in place of who for example?

Even some of the people Flanagan recruited in to our team and has given game time to, they were mostly not recruited as top 17 players yet they worked hard to earn a spot, at least in one point in time. I don't understand how anyone can complain about that. It's better than them being crap. For example, Robson over Green any day.

Robson was recruited as depth with hooker being the likely position.
Taufua wasn't in our round 1 team.
Williams was outside the top 25 in at least his first year from what I understand and has never been top 17.
Jon Green clearly was never top 17.

Cool. I really haven't had a chance to see much NYC this year so I can't really say. And that wasn't a shot, just highlighting some of the things that the coaching staff might be looking at beyond just the power of his runs or the hardness of his hits.

Hope he makes it though.

Yeah, hot and cold, like most of our NYC team.

Hope he makes it, I really do, but I could list probably 5 forwards of similar impact from the NYC each year who haven't kicked on yet.

would be the same as round 3 when our bench was graham toops fifita and morris, right?

Yeah and Taufua doesn't exactly play like a prop anyway.

Gallen has already been playing prop for about half of each game.

When Graham comes on, Gallen goes to prop. He probably plays a tight lock role when Jez is off. End of the day for most of the game it's Graham and Bukuya on the edges and everyone else is a tight forward.

to sign another back when toops either leaves or gets much less money

No real point doing this until we know (1) how the Lewis/Smith situation plays out, and (2) whether Best is playing. I think at this point we are all just arguing over where Michael Gordon plays and whether Gardner stays in the 13.

For me, I don't think Gardner or Best on the wing are serious options other than in an emergency.
