Viiga won't be NRL ready next year IMO, and he certainly won't be better than Taufua. Its not all about three good hitups.

I don't think Best will stay if we sign Jennings either.

Very weak at 6 behind Carney. I can't see Penani playing NRL.

Good post though, thanks.

Funny, three good hitups is all I've seen Taufua do. Viiga should get his spot asap next year.

While I am all in favour of giving Viiga the spot next year, at least for some games, I'd say the concern is more than Taufua is probably a better defender.

Meh, get Viiga training with the NRL squad in the off season especially fitness training and I don't think that'll be an issue.

I was just about to ask this - how is Viiga as a defender cause Taufua has been solid in that regard.

Mate, from what I have seen he goes alright. I do agree with MB though. He has to be brought along slowly. He has all the physical tools to succeed. He just needs good coaching. For the most part he tackles hard and low. I posted before that against the Warriors in NYC the first hitup he killed his oppostion prop off the first hitup with a text book front on hit. He looks like the perfect 20 minute impact prop that could develop the longer he plays. IMO he is better than Vave was at similar stages and he seems to be going alright with the storm. All about the coaching and opportunity boys.

The Tigers won a premiership on the perfect mix of youth development spattered with experiance in key positions.

If we ignore our younge potential and attempt to buy a premiership. It will never happen!

And the Bulldogs will do the same in the very near future. It's the key to success in the modern game. The Bronco's have been the benchmark for it for many years now.

Hahaha mate come on, the Bulldogs are the very definition of bought not bred.

Not anymore. I think Des will change that. No doubt they were the masters of it. But I think you will find they would have more developed players then we have. Kasiano, Barba, Finucane, Jackson, Reynolds, Taupau, Wright. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the dogs develop all those players? Compare it to our team.

Barba was recruited just before NYC.
Kasiano was signed directly into NYC, not a junior.
Finucane dunno
Jackson dunno
Reynolds is an Illawarra junior
Taupau Local junior by the look of it, though went to Endeavour Sports High School
Wright? Johnno? Eels junior mate.

Jackson's from the bush I think. Finucane also.

How is his wrestle? Where's his contact in D- is he locking up the ball? How quick is he up off the ground? How quick is his PTB? Is he tying in back behind the ruck or is he giving away cheap metres, LBs and quick PTBs? How's his line speed when he's fatigued?

He's a long way behind Vave in terms of numbers in their final years of NYC IMO. Vave was absolutely dominant in the NYC. Second best prop in his year behind Merrin. Taupau, Tasi, Sims and Clayton likewise. They were all averaging 150m+ and 20+ tackles a match. Just going off my recollection of Viiga's stats (so could easily be wrong) he'd be more like 80-100m/match and 15 tackles which wouldn't put him in anywhere near the same class of workrate.

He needs time IMO. At least one year of NSW Cup. A chance to take Ross' spot down the track though. What's the use of throwing him in there early anyway?

Yep, but they were all scouted by the Dog's. I didn't mean local juniors just players that have not been in any other NRL club systems.

Ben Barba – QLD/Junior
Tim Browne – South Junior but debut from Bulldogs
Greg Eastwood – Broncos
Michael Ennis© – Knights/Dragons/Broncos
Dale Finucane - Local Junior
Bryson Goodwin - Sharks
James Graham - England
Dene Halatau - Tigers
Trent Hodkinson - Manly
Christian Inu - Parra/Warriors
Sam Kasiano – Qld/Junior
Kris Keating - Parra
Tim Lafai - Local Junior
Josh Morris - Dragons
Corey Payne - Dragons/Tigers
Frank Pritchard - Penrith
Josh Reynolds - Local Junior
Joel Romelo - Penrith
David Stagg – Broncos
Martin Taupau - Local Junior
Aiden Tolman - Storm
Steve Turner – Panthers/Storm
Jonathan Wright - Eels

Don't know how official. Can't believe I stuffed the Wright thing up MB. I'm better than that.
