Aussie punters put their faith in the Hayne Plane
WITH Haynemania rapidly sweeping the country, a select group of Aussies are putting their utmost faith in Jarryd Hayne to make it in the NFL, backing him with one of the most ridiculous bets placed on the NRL convert to date.
Following Hayne’s survival of the first round of roster cuts for the San Francisco 49ers, sportsbet.com.au announced today their high stakes if Jarryd Hayne was to be selected as Super Bowl 50 MVP, with the betting company paying out $101 if he achieves such a feat.
So far two Aussies are backing Hayne to grasp NFL’s highest accolade in his rookie season, both with bets of $100 — a payout of $10000 if Hayne wins.
Unfortunately for punters, the feat seems rather unlikely, with the 49ers paying $51 to make the NFL finale in the first place.
The bookmaker also noted a drop in odds for Hayne to play an NFL game this year, with the former Parramatta Eels star now paying just $1.15 to play the 2015/16 regular season.
If Hayne was to make it to Super Bowl 50 with the 49ers, and go on to claim the game’s MVP, he would be the first running back to do so since 1998 when Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos made 157 rushing yards and became the first ever player in Super Bowl history to score three rushing touchdowns.
With it looking more likely by the day that Hayne will make Saturday’s final cut and be selected in the 53-man squad, sportsbet.com.au have placed a collection of interesting stakes on the Aussies’ head.
Hayne is currently paying just $2 to score a touchdown at any point during the upcoming regular season, as well as $10 to score a touchdown in his regular season NFL debut, while a price of $21 has been designated if he is to score more than five touchdowns from punt returns.
The 49ers have until Saturday afternoon to reduce their squad to 53 players for the opening game of the NFL regular season against the Minnesota Vikings on September 14.
Earlier this year when Hayne entered the 49ers training camp and needed to tuck a cheat sheet of plays into his pants to guide himself on the field, a practice squad position would have been considered a success.
But, showing so much potential in the trial games against the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos the past fortnight, Hayne will likely force the 49ers to include him in their 53.
When a player is waived, other teams can snap him up before the 49ers sign him to the practice squad. The 49ers know if they waive Hayne another NFL team will swoop in and sign him before they can put him on the practice squad.

So a mate of mine at work, more clued up on the NFL than I am, reckons Hayne has done remarkably well to make the cut at the 49ers but really doesn't seem him making much of an impact or getting much game time.
So far he says, he's been up against 2nd, 3rd or 4th stringers and has certainly shown them up but will find it so much tougher against the big boys.
It's amazing how much these things can be blown out of proportion with the media. I think it's great that Hayne is made it but they just can't be realistic about things can they?
In all probability Hayne will probably do a few punt returns but that's probably about it unless the 49ers go down with some injuries. They play in the hardest conference and the hardest division so the likelihood of them playing in the Superbowl is about 100,000/1.
