I would like to see how Penrith are travelling in about three years, but of the three clubs I was talking about they appear the most remarkable. I isolated Eels, Tigers and Panthers because they lifted themselves from the bottom to being competitive quite quickly.

As for the Tigers, the NRL has taken control of the club, because Wests and Balmain couldn't stop fighting. The NRL should do exactly the same at the Eels. It is another club that is incapable of running itself.

The Roosters and Canterbury are good examples. I'm not convinced Manly is being well run at the moment. The players seem to be in control and the Stewart situation could see them as spoon contenders in short time if they don't manage their buttons a bit better.

Penrith have done well in recruitment, retainment and development, however like we see everywhere, that will change once those players have a name, they will go elsewhere for money. They kept Mansour through loyalty, but you think 25 young blokes will all do that? No. Like tigers, they kept Tedesco, but he will be behind a walking frame if his rubber knees dont toughen the **** up.

All teams will fall victim as well as reap benefits from the salary cap. And basically, thats its intention

i hope we get the spoon this year, we deserve it

in fact, we deserve this more than a premiership... maybe this year will wake our club up

i said this the other day, to a mate who is a newy fan. He cant believe how bad we and them have been going, because basically on paper we have teams that could be well above the bottom of the table.

We have had a shocking run with injury, coaching issues, Todd Carneys ****, as well as all the off field **** which IMO is now just a lame excuse, if the only way these guys can actually feel ashamed to be playing so poorly is to come last, then so be it, ive got mates who are tigers fans, newy fans, eels fans and raiders fans, none of them have anything to be proud of lately either.

In this formation of the premiership competition, the NRL, there is plenty of teams that havent won, and some not come close, to winning the gf, let alone making it.
Raiders
Eels (made a few gfs)
Sharks
Warriors (made a gf)
Cowboys (made a gf)
Titans (younger team)
Rabbitohs

thats 7 of the 16 teams, nearly half.

In that time the wooden spooners/premiers have been:-

1998- Magpies/Broncos (Sharks 11th/20)
1999- Magpies/Storm (Sharks 1st)
2000-Cowboys/Broncos (Sharks 8th)
2001- Panthers/Knights (Sharks 4th)
2002- Dogs/Roosters (Sharks 5th)
2003- Rabbitohs/Panthers (Sharks 12th)
2004 - Rabbitohs/Dogs (Sharks 11th)
2005- Knights/Tigers (Sharks 7th)
2006- Rabbitohs/Broncos (Sharks 13th)
2007- Panthers/Storm(stripped) (Sharks 11th)
2008- Bulldogs/Sea Eagles (Sharks 3rd)
2009- Roosters/Storm (Stripped) ( Sharks 15th)
2010- Storm/Dragons (Sharks 14th)
2011- Titans/Sea Eagles (Sharks 13th)
2012- Eels/Storm (Sharks 7th)
2013- Eels/Roosters (Sharks 5th)

8/16 (now 17) trips to the finals since the NRL came along isnt terrible, given teams like the Rabbitohs, Dogs, Panthers and Eels all have multiple spoons in that side.

Storm made 4 consecutive gfs, Roosters made 3. Storm were done for cap rorting (but to their credit they didnt develop most of the blokes).

Its really a B effort for us. more trips deep in the finals would really have been good for our credentials, we've never been a threat, thats the problem.

The salary cap works, but unfortunately we have teams bending it to breaking point every season. Broncos are about to get away with it. Apparently their situation is mirrored to that of Gallens cap issue last season, however they used leagues club funds to top up 3rd party deals for consecutive seasons, which IMO is a rort. a 1 off that is reported by the club is not a team trying to cheat. Doing it for 3 years without rectification is the work of someone who doesnt give a **** about the rules.
Us, Raiders, Titans and Rabbits have never truly contested titles and Titans are young enough to be forgiven. Yes, the cap is far from perfect, but I think any team can win a premiership under the current model.

As far as im concerned anything that happened before i was born in 1996 i cant comment on, as i never witnessed it or felt the emotions of wins losses draws spoons or tied gf results. Titans are young yes, but they havent won anything, just like we havent. Same ****, people still use that excuse for the Cowboys or Warriors who have been around longer than the 2 mergers who have both won

I love my mates who support the Rabbitohs who talk about the glory days…..like theyre parents had actually been born when the rabbitohs last won something. So they laugh at the Sharks who havent won one. The reply from me is always, where were you when Souths won their last? So the stats come out.

Since birth…..Sharks 0 wooden spoons, 1 gf appearance 2 minor premierships.

I hope it is a wake up call, but part of me thinks almost 50 years without a premiership should of been enough of a wake up call.

I am pretty sure, probably about 99% certain we will get the spoon this year BUT... I am hoping that will wake us up & this will be the beginning of us looking like a force again, anyway, one team has to get it every year it just seems the media love it when we do, I dont remember there ever being a big story every week on the wooden spooners last year hahaha

Whilst we probably deserve the spoon and it may actually be the catalyst for change here, i'd prefer that either the knights got it because I hate them or Canberra get it purely so sticky can add another one to his collection.

Given we spent extended periods with no Carney, Fifita, Gallen, Lewis, toupo on the sideline to start the season i think that coulda cost us a win or 3. I reckon without those injuries we'd be hanging around the tigers/storm fighting for that 7th/8th place

I NEVER EVER want to see this great FOOTBALL CLUB of our get a wooden spoon. I don't care what the other Clubs have or haven't done. Does this current TEAM (can't really call them a team - group of players) deserve the spoon? They sure do!

It is US as the supporters of the Club that feel the pain and indignation the most.

I have thoughts about sending a box of wooden spoons to the Club with an engraved plaque "not since 1969" on each of them.

At the very least, this is what we should be working towards avoiding at all cost. Let's hope our playing group do not disrespect our colours.

Big effing whoop... every team has their fair share would've, could've, should've, might've, maybe, iffen, what-ifs... the most pathetic line in sport is "I could've been a contender."

Bottom line... we are an under-performing arse-full off complacent mediocre suck.

Until we stop making excuses for such a ***** year of lack-lustre, non-committed rubbish that is being dished up, nothing else will change.

From the Board to the ball-boys we are rubbish - I say this only through a perspective that from a position of realism will you ever have a chance at positivism and from there you might just have a chance at success.

I have greater pride in our jersey, colours and community than most of the sell-swords (both on and off the field) who come in and pretend to care about the ethos of this club... oh and , btw, are on a nice healthy pay-packet too.

The fundamental problem with the Cronulla Sharks is that we've (from year dot) been culturally under the impression that we can find excuses or justifications for under-performance. We are the perpetual "little brother" seeking sycophantic approval and consequently we will always be someone else's bitch.

Fed up. No excuse. No justifications. Just be professional... from Chairman to CEO to players to coaches to support staff to merch assistant to supporters... stop putting up with this crap.

End it.

Stop accepting mediocrity and failure - Demand better.

Sharks 2 home games,
knights 5 home games,
Raiders 5 home games.

Meh we play crap at home anyway (especially night games at home). I don't think our team can handle playing in front of more than 200 Sharks fans, they can't deal with the pressure and expectation of a decent showing
Everytime we get a big crowd to Remondis our blokes choke like Myth on a dagwood dog

The Spoon might make the club look hard at themselves but do they have the capability or capacity to actual build changes from it?
If you ask me the only output will be some fluff pieces in Feb 2015 from Fifita & Lewis about hurting form the spoon and wanting to prove something in season 2015 - what a load of ****

We have to build steadily toward being a great club and a great team.

I thought we were doing that when we were bringing through our triumphant juniors under John Lang.

Unfortunately we bent to the pressures of never having won a title and forked out big $$ for my least favourite Sharks coach.

Guess the big problem with the current world is that long term solutions only gain popular acclaim if there's short term success - so the long term thinkers are gone before they have a chance to see their plans come to fruition.

Like others have said, I think the current Panthers set up is moving toward this - but if they were coming last right now there's no doubt that the hoards would be calling for scalps
