Take it with a grain of salt.

But basically from what I've been told he was likely to be a Shark until the Dragons made contact last week. He now wants to go to the Dragons as he prefers to play for them (probably makes sense, guaranteed halves position rather than we'll fit you in the 17) but the Dragons are trying to figure out how to do a deal under the cap etc. The Sharks have submitted their offer, but given how this is now dragging out we can easily deduce that he is waiting on the Dragons as surely he would've already accepted our offer by now if he wanted to come to the Sharks.

Given that he'd prefer to play for the Dragons than us, I think it's time the club moved on, who wants a player whose second choice is your club, especially when he is such a risky proposition.

Andrew Fifita. Does this name ring a bell?

Sick of hearin those lines to be honest 'lookin after his family'.
What his gold diggin missus? Besides his playing contract will be a poofteenth of what he will get sponsor/media wise, that line is a cop out

What a person isn't allowed to look after their family?

Muppet.

Mate I'm talking about people who use it as an excuse - it's like people I see regularly on the streets of Melbourne who push their pram into traffic because they know it's going to stop.

Gareth Widdop has welcomed the idea of Benji Marshall joining him in the Dragons' halves.

ST GEORGE Illawarra five-eighth Gareth Widdop has welcomed the idea of Benji Marshall joining him in the Dragons' halves.

The Dragons are favourites to snare the signature of the former Wests Tigers' superstar, but the NRL club wasn't commenting publicly on Tuesday amid media reports chief executive Peter Doust was meeting the Dragons' board to discuss Marshall's acquisition. Marshall is expected to make a decision on his new home this week with Cronulla the only other club left in the running for his services.

Widdop played alongside Australian No. 7 Cooper Cronk at Melbourne and said he would relish the opportunity to have another superstar partner in the halves.

“As a young fellow, I played with some great players down at Melbourne so, to play with Benji — another great player — would be great too,” Widdop said.

“But at the moment, we have Sammy Williams, Adam Quinlan, Michael Witt, who are all good players themselves.

“It is all up in the air. We just have to move on and worry about playing football.

“It's all speculation.

“But everyone knows what he has done for rugby league. He was a great player before he left for Rugby union.

“Everyone watches footy to watch people like Benji and, to have him back, I'm sure it is going to attract a lot more attention which is great for rugby league.

Widdop has been a revelation for the Dragons since his off-season move from the Storm, but he has struggled to form a halves combination, with Witt, Williams and Quinlan all unable to cement their spot at halfback.

“It has been a bit like that, I suppose,” Widdop said.

“Michael started the year then got injured, then Sammy came in, and then Quinny.

“So it has been quite hard in that respect. I'm sure the coach has got his reasons and he will pick whoever is he believe is best for that weekend.

“If someone like Benji was to come into the team ... I think it can click if you are willing to stick to a game plan,” Widdop said. “Obviously the more you play together, a lot strong the combination.

“If there is a game plan there and you stick to it, it is quite easy to click.” After starting the NRL season in impressive fashion, winning their first three games, the Dragons have won just one of their next five.

Ahead of Sunday's round-nine clash with Canterbury at ANZ Stadium, they sit ninth on the ladder, outside the eight on percentages.

After the representative weekend off, Widdop said the club was confident of kickstarting the Dragons' season.

“I just want to be consistent, week in week out, and I have done that so far,” he said.

“The last few weeks have been a bit tough with things going against us and, personally, I am happy with how I am going but I still want to keep improving.”

I think he's referring to how people use it as an excuse to chase the money.

If a player comes out and says "nah I'm just chasing the money" the media will tear them apart. However if a player comes out and says "I need to look after my family" it's deemed acceptable.

Whilst the guy should always be looking out for his family, you would assume the guy is pretty stable financially and pretty much has a guaranteed job at channel 9 if he asks for one.'

However the Dragons are offering an extra $100,000-200,000 and I'd doubt many would turn that down.

I'm over Benji, let the queens have him.
Then they might get to endure his 2013 form.

Point taken, but at least Fifita was already with he Sharks, has displayed some passion for the club in the past and is a younger player on the up, note past it.

Agreed. Fifita has passion for the Sharkies (which is what we want from all our players).
Thank goodness the dogs offer was all BS and we kept hold of Andrew.
Let's hope David progresses to Andrews level and we keep him also!
What a front row that would be!
