Yes but your yearly wage would carry on until you retire. If you stay within that job.
League players careers aren't that long. And unless they set themselves up with degree etc it may be harder to gain suitable employment.
Also, let's say you are on a 50k a year wage. You leave for more coin and a new challenge, but that doesn't work out. So you want to go back to the former industry, then you have 2 offers, 1 offering considerably more money per year than the other... Seriously, which would you take?
Playing football opens plenty of lucrative doors post career because of your profile, like coaching and media. I don't buy the short career arguement. Also the players earn enough money during their careers to either invest in something or get the education they need to get themselves a good trade. Just need to be smart with their money.
Of course I would take the higher wage. But I didn't earn the sort of money Benji did while he was at the Tigers, that's my point. Two completely different circumstances.
I'm not naive, I know this is what the game has turned into, doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
