Right. My concern can be summed up in two words: vested interests.
Namely Rothfield and the payback he will call in for running a fortnight of advertising for this mob.
And the future of the development. Dino Mezzatesta- runs hotels, no? Any chance he'll want to influence the development?
I'm no Shire local so I have nothing to say about De La Salle influence, though I know that is a concern for many as well.
The previous Board (particularly Irvine, Douglas, Ward etc) were faced with the highest of standards from the get go. It was 'get it right, or we die and the blood be on your hands'.
The test for this mob will be different: act solely in the best interests of the Club. Which is obviously much harder to measure.
One test that I'll be keeping an eye out for is constitutional reform and improving communication with/integration of the fan base with the Club. They must support the players and staff but not protect any cheats. Another test will be the smooth and on-time progress of the development. Others will be the ongoing tenure of at least one of Cullen and Noyce, the paucity of important information and obviously the financials.
Given Rothfield appears to be well in their corner, one major paper will do bugger all to hold them to account. Hopefully the SMH will keep up the hard line they've been running for the last three years plus.
So yeah, the new Board should be allowed some time to see how they perform. But not much. The stakes are high.
