Trindall can play lock if McInnes gives Blayke a spell. If McInnes has a great deal of involvement as a first receiver, which I am thinking he might, then Trindall likely is a better sub for him than Dale, Williams, Toby et alOn Trindall on the bench... If he's only a half or lock, do we need him there?
This isn't a get rid of Trindall thing, its just that if Blayke goes down you've got Cam. If you need a lock there's Willams, Toby, Dale... And a few more ... who are more appropriate options.
Trindall isn't a utility, and we've got plenty of forwards. I honestly don't think I could justify him on the bench over Metcalf or even that 7's bloke Miller.
So I think Trindall works well from that angle and then provides cover for 2/4 spine players (one of whom is an escalated chance of needing cover). McInnes covers 9 if Blayke got injured and again Trindall can help out there without too much disruption. Could also do 9 himself if he had to. And if WK had to go off I guess you can either use a Talakai, Wilton, Williams or probably even Trindall at centre while one of the centre/wing goes to fullback.
Metcalf also covers very well, can do 3 maybe 4 of the spine roles but probably less valuable as a 13 (Trindall is enough bigger for it to be relevant). Then Miller if he can cover anywhere in spine, probably better at hooker than Metcalf by the sound of things, is similarly very versatile. Maybe in direct competition for the back up role with Metcalf if we run 6 Moylan 7 Hynes 14 Trindall to start with. Could even see them alternating time at 18.
I think the versatility to cover halves and 9 but also be more competent at 13 where he is a better chance to get a run if there are no injuries makes Trindall the best fit.
BUT arguably of the three Trindall would longer term benefit most from being able to play 80 for the Jets as a half if he isn't able to get more than 10 minutes of NRL a week but is supposed to partner Hynes 2023.
Meanwhile I think Metcalf might be our best non-disruptive fullback cover so I'd probably be trying to get him playing 80 at fullback every week for Jets.
Other than a few 80 minutes stints in Jets to start the year to make sure he can cut it I don't think Miller would get as much from game play experience as the other two, being quite a bit older and experienced at high level (if different) football.
Metcalf I don't really care what he gets out of it anymore but valuable to us as fullback cover. If Miller looks good at fullback he can be Jets fullback and I don't care how Metcalf is used.
I thought I saw somewhere he can jump in at 6, or maybe saw him in a 6 in highlights?Where did you hear this? It is not true at all.
