thought he went ok but went back into a shell when we lost momentum

needs to own the team when we have the ball, not rely on SJ to figure out if he wants to play or not

Yeah he can be too passive at times, really needs to change that but I think it's just his personality.

He's defn playing a bit more eyes up and running more since Chad left the team imo. That first half he was really engaging the line and scooting out of dummy half, but then didn't keep it up the whole game.

I don't understand why he's not doing more kicking either. Does he only want to kick when there's a 40/20 chance on ? He doesn't need to kick a 40/20 every time.

Are you saying he wasn't playing eyes up because of Chad or just that is occurred around the same time?

I think having the majority of players back - hence more go forward is the main reason. A lot easier to play eyes up footy when the defence is on the back foot.

The Chad dropping was such a defining moment in some people lives, there are no various circumstances to consider, there is only Chad and no Chad.

v Dragons
4 for 37

v Raiders
6 for 32

v Eels
5 for 32

v Cows
4 for 36

v Roosters
3 for 23

v Knights
3 for 29

v Bulldogs
1 for 6

v Storm
5 for 41

v Panthers
3 for 16

v Rabbitohs
8 for 58

v Dragons
2 for 15

v Titans (AFTER CHAD)
9 for 56

v Panthers (AFTER CHAD)
2 for 10

v Cowboys (AFTER CHAD)
6 for 42

So with Chad he ran 4 times per game for 7.4m average
POST CHAD he ran 5.7 timers per game for 6.4m average

So yeah, I guess you're right he has had more runs in games without Chad
Although they haven't been as good...

Blayke Brailey is one player I don’t get...
maybe more then anything he is just trying to save steam as he’s in the middle for 80

He is apparently (heard it in commentary recently) the youngest consistent starting hooker.
Think there is still plenty to come from him but I do agree with everyone I'd like to see a bit more running and kicking.

I think a little more muscle will help a lot to make his tackles a bit easier which will help him keep his energy up.

Surely it's just preservation. He's young and light, and needs to develop more physically before getting really stuck into the running game. Still, maybe it's the trend these days. Cook runs less. Smith took the occasional scoot (though rarely tackled). I don't think there's any other hooker kicking much from dummy half either, though could be wrong.

For our team specifically though, Blayke kicking more would be really handy

He rarely gets tackled with the ball. Even when he does scoot he is quick to move the ball on before reaching the defenders.

I was thinking this may be a directive from the coach due to our lack of booking depth.

thought he looked fairly good first half but by end of game I was left feeling a bit meh - fortunately his opposite number had a worse than usual game even if he did run more than brails

I think he might need a genuine challenger for his spot, seemed to work well for Kennedy - trindall or tracey @ 9 doesn't seem to do much for us and are not a real threat to blayke and Chad is not a serious option

Morris and Ennis are no longer at the club so who is mentoring young Blayke ? he's a good little player but missing something to take him to that next level or become that consistent week in week out threat from the ruck. it's not just a matter of him kicking more although it might help. his ceiling is high, we saw how good he can be against Raiders in the finals last year for instance. Morris seemed to give him a gameplan and freedom to really shine that game and he came out of the blocks on fire.

His older brother seems to be developing so that's encouraging for the younger Blayke

We have had bad luck bringing in older more experienced depth @ 9 the last 4 or 5 years with these sort of players getting injured or moving onto other opportunities

no doubt we give him an extension next season based on his potential and with plenty of years of footy in him but also would be diligent to keep an open mind and our eyes open on the market even if it's just for solid depth

Well he’ll go into next year knowing very well that McInnes could switch from lock to hooker at any time if Blayke’s not up to scratch, thats pretty much the same thing as having someone fighting for his spot. For the record I have complete faith in Blayke and am willing to be patient with him to work out his growing pains in first grade so to speak.

Also in fairness Brailey isn't known for his size and tackle breaking skills, better to offload it to someone who's better equipped to hit it up is probably his line of thinking

Yes good point on McInnes and we have other options to fill in at lock if need be

McInness should be the best thing to happen to Blayke's game since receiving his first grade jersey. All the young dude needs is a short dummy half shift from Macca at say the 50th minute, and he should be full of running. I'm sure right now he's just trying to pace himself until he gets a bit older and grizzled... it's probably the most demanding position on the field, and he's handled 80 mins week in week out pretty bloody well so far

Needs some competition, poor game

He’s still the right guy for the job for mine. He had a rough game today but people shouldn’t be written off for a couple of bad games. But your right, having legit competition helps any player, he hasn’t got that at the moment. I think having McInnes there next season will result in a much better Blayke.

Agree - not ready to give up on him by any means but he’s not developing as we hoped. McInnes will be great for his game
