Fitz and Hannay are on a very different assessment/knowledge level to us, especially Hannay who literally coaches our players multiple times per week.
Hannay 100% could know Trindall is worse than Chad. I'm not NRL coach but it is within the realm of reason that if I watched Chad and Trindall both train a dozen times or more that I might be able to make a fair judgement as to which is better.
If Trindall can't show at training he is as good or better than Chad then he isn't. If Trindall is just waiting for a chance in games to break out as a solid or better NRL player but can't showup Chad at training then it is purely his own fault the chance isn't being given to him.

Some examples of players that were supposedly standouts at training before making NRL debute recently are Sam Walker and Reece Walsh. If Trindall is killing it at training by all means give him a run, I just don't think it's reasonable Hannay drop one of Chad, Moylan, Johnson either because the fans think Trindall could be better or just in case he plays NRL at a much higher standard than he trains.

.

Its not so much the case of who’s better out of Chad, Moylan, Johnson and Trindall. I’m more getting at none of those first 3 are supposedly going to be here next year so why persist when we are only getting flogged in a dead season?

My point in giving Trindall a go is solely coming down to the fact that Trindall might have to be in our plans next year. Anyways I hope we come up with a better option than Trindall for our 2022 no.7 but who knows atm.

I would like to see Trindall just get more than 5 or 10 minutes a game - whatever position.

Plenty of players get better with game time - Connor Tracey the perfect point.

You don’t develop the kid by giving him 5 mins in a position he’s not interested in

That’s sort of what I’m getting at. No ones going to know what he’s made of by only playing 5 minutes out of position. Everyone at the club or coming to the club needs to see consecutive 80 min games to know if he has the potential to be an option for us next year.

Right now Townsend, and apparently Johnson and Moylan aren’t going to be options for next year, so may as well see if Trindall can be. I just think there is more to gain than lose for our future by doing it that’s all.

Yep agree. I would rather tell him he has a month or so to give it a good crack (without fear of being dropped). Take some pressure off him and see how he goes.

I’m all for Trindall to be given a decent shot in the 7 this season.

I get what Bort is saying about “training form” but given the current circumstances with our season shot and Chad on his bike, so why not see how BT handles himself as a 7 over a solid 4-6 week period?
If he stinks it up, then adios, but if he shows some talent then we have something to work with for next season. Plus, Chad has peaked, so why not look at what BT has in match conditions and see if he has a higher ceiling.

It is a waste of time giving Trindall a run if...
Reynolds or another half is going to be signed (still unconfirmed, even if the result is looking depressingly predictable),
Trindall is not in the plans next year.

The fact that he's not getting a run suggests both of these are still highly possible, if not probable.

Fair point. So it's probably fair to say if he doesn't get a good run in next month or so he is not in their plans for next year

If staff know based on training and NSW Cup he isn’t better than three other halves we aren’t keeping it’s probably a reasonable shout we also aren’t keeping him.

To be clear my thoughts he may not be really in consideration for next year is largely based on fact he doesn’t currently seem to be in much consideration for this season. If he starts getting some game time I’m happy to also assume it is because he deserves it

I have a gut feeling that Johnson, Moylan and Townsend are in the front because

1. Experience
2. Wage
3. Name

Yet, to be fair, the only one out of those three that actually looks to better our attack and defensively is sound, it's Moylan.

Townsend shouldn't be playing considering he is leaving and offers next to nothing. This is a good time to say to Trindall or Tracey, here you've got a month to show us why we keep you.

Now, in regards to Trindall not being as good as the other halves, don't forget he has been on our bench and extended bench for a while. So he must be doing something to impress the coaching team.

Tracey has just signed a new contract.

I think it is worth giving Trindall the rest of the year to see what he can do.

Chad can play off the bench to back up Brailey.

Moylan is defensively sound? Didn’t see the Canberra game eh?

I hope Trindall gets a good run this year: if we saw a young half with his grand final record we would want to sign him.

I can see some benefit though in waiting for the right time. Maybe let Chad stabilise things, wait for some forwards and wingers to come back, and then give him a shot in our easier home run. I would love to see a Johnson Trindall halves pairing again

Yep, there is absolutely nothing to lose in doing this. Give him a go.
