What does the NRL lose by not accepting?

An asset. A stadium they can part own and take commercial opportunities out of - a stadium they can operate out of without the continual rent/leasing fees - If they are looking to get grants of money on stadium upgrades why not do it to a stadium you can have part ownership of.

I don’t think the NRL own any assets like this.. the only negative thing is the shire is out of the way

What do you think the commercial opportunities will be?

Not trying to be a smartarse, but what sporting events?

I’ll take your comment at face value.. anything that can be played out of a stadium.

A la Bankwest stadium

Can be a massive asset IF the Sharks/NRL get it upgraded and resourced properly

I just can't see what it would be used for. Bankwest, Homebush and SFS are geographically far better for most of Sydney and easier to access.

They obviously don't have the coin but the SFS would have been the play.

It would also mean the NRL needs us to be in the comp. We ain't a big team, no chance they're committing to that.

We hosted the Women's World Cup because there was a need for a smaller venue

You’re being a bit negative ..

Nines,Rugby 7s, soccer, concerts, boxing, club rugby, there are many uses the stadium can be for - if the NRL become involved you can bet they will make sure they find avenues to get revenue out of it.

It is out of the way but is that such a big deal to travel 40 mins for a sporting event ? Probably not - especially if there is a pub, hotel, food, nightlife around.

Even without the NRL if the Sharks can present a good enough case to get a grant there is potential

In your head, rent free
Can you give reasons ?
Our yearly present costs of home games pretty much run in the Red .
Surely , an opportunity to have a world class boutique stadium on our Leagues Club doorstep , without footing all the bill is beneficial , providing we own at least 51% ?

It gives them power over us they dont have now

It makes no business sense to sell of a share of an asset we have and totally control, especially when that asset is our home

Maybe I am being negative.

Transport is terrible there as is parking. Geographically ****house.

It makes prefect sense from our side, secures our long term future. Couldn't see them ever wanting us out of the comp if we're the only major tenant at their part-owned ground.

Would love it to happen.

100% - **** the NRL, We're the only club that owns their ground. Good luck in court trying to shift us. There's no legal way that can happen. They tried to boot souffs out remember.

We should at least look seriously into how our home ground can be an income source during the off season thou.
If we don’t get in bed with the NRL, then we should at least look into options to utilise the ground over the summer (once all the development has been completed that is).

Why wouldn't it make our future more secure if they had a big financial stake in our ground?

Why would any owner want to get rid of their largest tenant with no realistic option to replace it?

Agreed. If this did go ahead and it's a big IF, then it commits them to being a team in the area in my opinion. That's potentially why I don't think it will happen. If it was a more central area that other teams could easily play out of.

And in regards to business sense to lose part ownership of an asset. Happens all the time. Look at the rest of the Sharks development, we held the asset but had no capital to do the development. This is the same thing. Going partners with someone else to improve the value, functionality and ergo the revenue stream is certainly a viable option.

Besides if we don't do anything. So we stay at Shark park, we don't go halfsies with the NRL/State Govn and we don't play at Kogarah - What do you think happens in 5, 10, 15 years ? If we don't get the funding for the Centre of Excellence we can't upgrade the locker rooms and can't host finals or get a womens team. Not to mention the dilapidation of the rest of the stadium.

What I would actually like to see if instead of building these mini Bankwests that some teams don't want to play at why don't they provide funding for these stadiums to get upgrades.

For example Shark Park gets $60m, Leichhardt gets $20m, Panthers get $60m etc etc.

Not backing us to be good dudes though, it would be for partial ownership of the asset (instead of none). Seems like something they’d have to take a serious look at

I mean more with all things being okay, they just wouldn't choose us as business partners. We're more the messy, unreliable mate you have to share a house with until you find somewhere to live

Yep this is why I keep saying it won't happen.

Exactly. Diluted equity is completely normal in business, you want to be getting what you want out of it, that's all.

Yep. Again, this is exactly what I've been saying.

There is zero chance we can fund the ground on our own without external funding.

This would be my preference as well, by far.

On a side note, I was in the shire on the weekend for the first time in a long time, I drove passed Shark Park and there was a banner that said something like 'Your new home in 2023"

Did I miss something? I thought we were back in 2022.
