So do you wanna flog the **** out of a guy with muscle injuries for 80 minutes, or pick and choose your moments?
A tough one to be sure. If he isn't fit enough to play a full game is he fit enough to play at all?
Soft tissue injuries are a bit different to just having worn down haggard knees in this regard as at least with the knees you can reasonably expect what will happen given different amounts of game time and can work around it and adjust recovery to compensate also.
If we aren't sure if Moylan is up to a game or not then perhaps the answer is that he's not, rather than to use him off the bench. Tracey is just as, if not more, versatile (obviously peak Moylan is way better) so could just be better to have him if you aren't sure about Moylan.
If you are confident Moylan isn't at an elevated injury risk then you start him, not play him as a utility.
Moylan would run out for the pre-game hitout/warm up with the team and then do another sideline warm up before he is called into play, just like any other bench player
The advantage with the benchy option is that running him through 2 warm ups gives us 2 opportunities to catch any complaints AND in addition there is less minutes required of his body over the course of the game and it prob suits our team balance the most to have him played off the bench right now as it stands
If you don't want him to cool down at all after the pre game warm up stick him on a bike and throw a quilt made of denco rub on him
I agree that he could be managed through the bench and it shouldn't really represent a significantly (if at all) increased risk - more I think that he's either fit to play he is our best FB or he's not 100% and thus shouldn't be on the bench either.
Our best team balance, I think, is him at FB and Dugan/Ronnie on wings with Ramien and Xerri at centre, Tracey on the bench. If we are worried he can't play 80 due to soft tissue concerns I don't see how you could then be confident 30 minutes off the bench would be a far better idea than just holding him out.
